This may be a dumb question.

Why would they remove the beauty ring to change the tire?

Is it a precaution against damaging them?

59 out of my 60 were torque correctly. 1 was not and I stripped the F out of it.

was wondering the same. i took one off the other day to reinstall it with the valve stem notch aligned correctly (which happened under the previous owner) and now that i think of it - yeah, it could potentially get in the way a bit.
