I would guess that FORD would run one down the line to check production processes, etc. It's a proven fact that it happened with the 1964 Fairlane Thunderbolts (I researched those heavily when I was younger). There was one with an odd VIN, and it turned out that was the case. The first 11 were already assembled production cars, which meant that a lot of things had to be removed to then build them into drag cars. So FoMoCo didn't want them to be complete when the were shipped to the builders. Ford then did one probably as a test to see where it should be pulled from the line. They gathered info from that and then the rest were made in batches, but that VIN stands alone.
