Also the 1st generation Jeep Liberty. That is how I received my tow package. It was added to address the recall associated with rear-end collisions and the rear gas tank. Supposedly, the tow hitch provides enough armament in a rear-end collision. I just think that it serves to puncture the tank cleanly.

FWIW most bumper-mounted swing-out tire carriers on Jeeps now open with the swing gate. You no longer have to swing open the tire carrier and then the gate. It all happens in one motion.

Can you share some brands / models so I can look into this? Is the carrier made to be easily removed if you want to ditch your spare?

Long story short I'd ideally like to delete my spare for daily driving but put it back on for trips and when off-road. Thanks!
