Sync split screen?

Went on a road trip yesterday and had phone connected with nav and CarPlay split screen by tapping little square on bottom left. On return trip I wanted to do the same so I didn’t miss a turn. However I could not get split screen. If I recall the little square on bottom left was different and just brought me to the radio menu for all selections. CarPlay, Ford sync etc. Ended up just toggling screen between nav and music.

When it's not in split screen mode, you have a box. clicking the box toggles you between full and split screen mode.

I didn’t have the box in second pic on way home but did on way. On way home I had the 1st pic you posted and couldn’t get to split screen. Wait! Found it. The empty box allowing split shows up on app screen. Thanks. Resolved.

How did you get CarPlay to fill up the entire display (without the Audio, CarPlay, Apps, Settings, Features buttons below)?

The square of 9 little squares brings up apps. Just select music.

Upper left corner there is a double arrow probably pointing inward if you don’t have the full screen. Press the arrow and it will enlarge and fill the screen and the arrows will change to point outward. Does that make sense?
