That roll-on stuff will never come off. I would suggest using a thick PPF. You can peel it off and everything will look nice and new underneath.
The lower edge is the most susceptible especially if someone uses a cargo liner (OEM or aftermarket) as that will rub against the tailgate. A hassle-free option is to buy the clear PPF for the door sill. StickerFab sells them amongst many other companies. They fit perfectly on the lower edge. Just trim to fit the length.

Another option is just to use stickers as a sacrificial PPF of sorts. Serves as a quasi-storyboard of different ventures and can be replaced as needed.

I used the Rustoleum Roll on Liner in the bed of my 87 Chevy Squarebody pick up. The stuff is good and looks really nice when done. But as already stated once on, it's not coming off unless you do extreme sanding down to bare metal.

I think the smooth, removable PPF recommended above is the better option vs. bedliner. You have seals making contact all around that gate. A textured bed liner coating might not seal well and might wear down your seals with vibration.

@Beachbum, I have some catching up to do on stickers. My rules for stickers are I have to have gone there in the Bronco or it has to be gear on/in the Bronco.

Good point didn’t think of that thanks!

Some have used the sacrificial stickers on their rollbar to protect the paint, also. I need to get an updated picture as some have since been replaced as they have worn. But your principal rule is valid. Some aren't a location that can be "visited" such as the B6G Stig Sticker, Sons of Smokey, or some B6G member specific stickers that were created during the launch to mimic the Bronco Off-Roadeo emblems but were satirical to lament the ongoing delays such as: No VIN Gang/Left for Dead, Priority 99/Enjoy the Show, and Two Doors/I Want to Believe.

I’ve considered the same thing, and even have some scratches at this point. (Too late for the ppf, and it won’t protect against sharp edged cargo slide anyway.) I haven’t done the bedliner because it’s permanent, and I can’t get it to look factory when I’ve applied it in other projects.

I’m really considering it also I work in auto body so it’s right up my alley I wanna do a roll on as a way to avoid overspray and a lot of masking I think it will look cool also

So I’ve made my decision I’m going to go the bed liner route herculiner to be exact I also plannning to do a complete step by step tutorial with photos and supply list I would consider myself more of a professional since I work in auto body business and feel like I will achieve the best long lasting results for anyone who wants to go that route

Yes - I used the roll-on stuff on my boat trailer fenders for non-skid and it works / looks great.

But, I also used it on my raptor step where I had hoop step brakes welded (for my wife and elderly parents to be able to get in on the passenger side) and that did not come out as consistent.

If you do go the bed liner route. Use the Raptor liner spray. It goes on nice.
I second this. I used Raptor in my 97 Wrangler. So much better than the roll on stuff. I had a friend use Herculiner. It always seemed to feel a little sticky. He did not like it and wished he used Raptor. But it is permanent, so the suggestions for a peal off coating might be the way to go. Raptor if you want permanent.

I installed boat floor self-adhesive lining on the tailgate with a strip of PPF on the bottom part that rubs against the OEM rubber floor mat
