I am about a month or so in and about 3000 miles on my Bronco and I found the first rock chip, right in the middle of the front fender, kind of an odd place for it but it is there. What touch up paint seems to be the best for matching and filling it in? Is it best to get it from the dealer or are there good aftermarket paints out there?

I also found a chip in the windshield, it didn't take long for the newness to wear off I guess.

I just use the official Motorcraft Touch-up paint, available from any Ford dealer.

If I need to do an area larger than what a touch-up paint pen can handle, there is a local ACE hardware that mixes automotive paint for me. I've also used Automotive Touchup in the past, but... they're pricey.

I just recently went down the rabbit hole of trying to get the best result for touch up paint. I ended up getting color matching paint from scratches happen. It was a very good match for Velocity Blue (metallic touch ups are just a pain). Their stuff also comes with the dabbers (which are essential for small chips). The pens are OK but you can't really use them for small areas and will want to get the paint out of the pen and use a dabber or toothpick. Then there is langka blob eliminator for the final step to get that perfect level.

Get the paint code and get the motor craft paint off of Amazon. It’s much cheaper than at the stealership.

Can you explain this more? I know this struggle and was not sure how to deal with it. Thanks

I've been using touch up direct that I buy on Amazon. Color match is perfect, and personally I find theirs alot easier to use than my previous experience with Ford official touch up paints.

I bought the Ford stuff for my Bronco. That being said, I'd had some instances in the past where the dealership throws in a paint pen for no cost (even after picking up the vehicle), so it might not hurt to inquire.

is the Ford paint a 1 step or 2 step paint? Will I need to add clear to it once I get the chip fixed?

1-step. There are certain (usually limited edition) colors that are 2-step, but the vast majority are 1-step.

The Motorcraft paint pens are just your normal paint pens. Has the lacquer base color and then a clear coat brush in the same pen. Clean the area, add paint to the chip, wait for it to dry, then brush on the clear coat. Done.

I believe the Ford/Motorcraft paint pens are manufactured by Duplicolor, if you wanted to do a Google search to see how they work.

Attached is the part number sheet in case you need it.

Thanks, I have a couple on order, we'll see what I get next week when they show up. Still on the fence and doing research on this Langka stuff.

Check with your dealer on paint issues. My dealer offers (or so the salesman said) 12 months free paint touch ups.

I will let you know what I did based off a multiple of skilled detailers sharing their knowledge.

Stuff
1) Get your paint. The Motorcraft pens is good (has clear and paint). I grabbed paint from https://scratcheshappen.com/ as they include the dabbers (you can also order through amazon from scratches happen). The are also already in little containers. Your code is on the door jamb I think.. I knew what my code/color was. If you use the pen.. you will want to have something to take the paint out and put in.
2) Get toothpicks and dabbers (unless you already have them). A bunch of sizes help.
https://www.amazon.com/Disposable-Applicators-Automotive-Detailing-Scratches/dp/B09DSWDRKP/
If you are doing a lot of spots these paint pens help:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CN9LNBQ4/ (not worth it if you are only doing a few spots ).
3) Get 2000 grit sand paper
4) Hole punch
5) Some type of domed wooden dowel
6) Super glue
7) Langka Blob-Eliminator https://www.amazon.com/Langka-LANGKA-2oz-Blob-Eliminator/dp/B000BAT622/
8) Isopropyl alcohol

Steps
Follow this guys steps. He is really good, however
1) Do not mix clear and color (this is mainly for metallic paints, mixing does not go well) . So do two steps. Paint, then clear.
2) Do not use an eraser. The video assumes you will buff so adding small swirls will disappear then. Since there is the option of Langka Blob-Eliminator, use the wooden dowel with a round surface and glue the sand paper to that. This will keep the prep inside the chip.
3) Once you are done with the clear.... let it cure for a couple days and then follow the Langka Blob-Eliminator instructions.

Know that you if you are not satisfied with your result, you can always start over. I did... 3 times! I am trying to tell myself to not go for a 4th attempt. Know it is not going to match a re spray. It is just not. It will be very good with metallic and exceptional with solid colors. But never perfect.

Hope that helps.

Hey guys, was looking for a spray can of my Bronco's color. Happened across this site touchupzone.com Has anyone used products from them? Are they legit? Got a couple adding pieces I'd like to spray paint the same color as my ride.

I get all of my touchup paint from here. Dead match to stock with all previous vehicles. I’ve had good luck with this company.
