I'd argue that between 1958 and about 1965 the Ford Edsel V8's were absolutely big blocks. Sure by the mid/late 60's you get the 427's sorted and bigger "big blocks" came available. Most of them evolutions of the wisdom gained by the FE's dominating their time period.While you are right about FE’s sounding great you are wrong about them being big blocks. They are “Midsize Blocks” and the best engines ever made in my opinion.

Like the Flathead V8 being the unquestioned king of the streets...... Until the day the Rocket 88's came out and fatties suddenly became chopped liver.
I do tend to look at things strictly within the year they came out to see how cool they were. Time and progress have no finish line and no winner.
