Hey there,

I have a 67 designs byod full rail and love it; however, what I don’t really like is that the dashboard vibration/movement from everyday driving conditions causes my phone or tablet to vibrate. I’m not using extremely long arms for the rail, they’re just enough to clear the dashboard, and I know it’s not the rail that’s causing this vibration issue. It’s the entire dashboard assembly. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the dashboard. It’s probably just the way it’s designed.

Does anybody else find this annoying? Has any body figured out a way to mitigate the dashboard vibration or movement? If so, how did you do it?

I know, first world problems, bits it’s something I’d like to address if possible.

No dashboard vibration issues here. Any chance you might have a wheel out of balance?

I don’t think so. I get that movement/vibration when I’m driving over a little bit of a bumpy road or pothole, etc. I know stuff is designed with tolerance in mind, but this seems a little excessive in my opinion.

Hmmm, considering the cost of the vehicle doesn't sound right to me. Maybe the dash is loose?

I use the same 67 Designs rail and yea I get the movement too.

The rail is attached to one solid point (center of dash with a screw in hole). There are two legs on each side which just screw attachments into the plastic dash so the plastic flexes a bit which is multiplied by the length of the arms and is specially noticeable when arm has a heavy phone attached.

I tried installing a second pair of legs to see if maybe the original attachment point were just too flimsy but it did not improve anything.

What helps is if the arm is positioned in a way where the phone being held gently rests on the dash itself as well.

Thank you. When I installed the rail, I didn’t use the screws they provided for the plastic end legs. I took the dash apart and I used machine fasteners that used a washer and nylon locknut on the backside to secure those end legs to the dash. I did that to try to prevent some of that movement.

I rested the arm in the dash to prevent some of the movement, but that is where I realized it is the entire dash that moves not just the rail.

Was hoping there was some fasteners I could tighten to limit the amount of movement I’m getting.

yes, its an issue. been there on mine since I installed it. What helped the most was to take a chunk of rubber from something else, put it on the bottom of the longest arm with some doublesided tape, and let that arm and base make a bit of a triangle support on the dash. I was thinking of working up a 3D print file for it using TPU, that would allow for a little squish but still provide a ton of support.

If there isn’t a way to tighten up the dashboard itself, I might try using these.

that looks great, let us know how it works out. Thats basically what i did with some scraps.

I had a buddy design me something similar and print it out if PLA, but because it’s a hard surface, it didn’t help. I’m hoping because these are rubber it’ll help isolate.
