I am not sure about the DI trails, but I know that MI was looking to exclude ORVs completely from groomed trails from Dec. 1 to March 30, plus the shutdown of trails in public areas during hunting hours for Firearm Deer Season and limited lodging options in the winter might make it hard to do a group ride in the snow. I personally would like to host something by our place near Oscoda this winter as the snowmobile trails are pretty limited and the two tracks and forest roads are both plentiful and made somewhat challenging with snow on them, usually between Christmas and beginning of March.
Zixer37
@Mattwings for winter wheeling you might check out the St Helen area. There is plenty of lodging and the community is very receptive to all types of 4x4s. They host several big off road events in that area every year. Its also very close to the Mio and Bull Gap trails.

Mattwings
@Zixer37 it’s definitely a good winter spot. We did one club ride last year there in late winter/early spring and it was a good area. In the “depth” of winter a lot of it is groomed and if not illegal yet, strongly frowned upon to ride. I think we would just have to pick a date on the early or later side of expected snowmobile grooming and hope!

Jeep Jamboree did two winter events on Drummond and I know that there was a lot of negotiation on the sharing of trails. They used a very limited amount of groomed trails that were needed to access other areas and then paid to have them groomed after the event. The areas used were a very small percentage of the total groomed trails but there was still a lot of frustration from the snowmobile community. We went up another winter on our own and the snow amounts were lower so there was not a lot of trails groomed at the time so it wasn't an issue for us but depending on the snow conditions it could be. We also spent time in the off road park so that we were staying off of the trails. I haven't heard the latest on the effort to exclude ORV's during the winter - hopefully that doesn't go through.

It passed the House and is stalled in the Senate I believe. https://fastdemocracy.com/bill-search/mi/2021-2022/bills/MIB00018267/ It's kind of weird, because the main group supporting the ban also represents both ORVs and snowmobiles. It's really complicated (as you are likely aware), because the Snowmobile trails use a lot of private right of ways. Those right of ways are not generally used by the ORV trials/routes and those property owners often do not want ORVs to use the trails or right of ways.

Limited time ride offer. If you are in the Comins area I am up at the property today. Sunday the 4th. Will be here all day. Trails total out to 31.5 miles, that’s side trails included. Trip around the outer edge is 8.5 miles. Property is private, no risk of others. Mostly groomed grass hard pack in the middle of the woods. Have some descent hills some with sand on the trail system. This would be considered easy/relaxing. Dm if interested. No risk of scratches on the main trial. Other trails do get tighter, may find a down tree or 2. Really no chance of wrecking or getting stuck. Just a quiet ride through the woods if your in the area.

Will give you a map and let you loose.

Does anyone know of a good mechanic / shop in the greater Detroit area that might install a catch-can?

None of the dealerships will install, and the 5 auto shops I’ve approached won’t do it either. They all keep citing liability surround third-party add-on’s as a rationale.

Appreciate anyone’s experience.

Is it bad I know Jake has a 2.3l?
VelocityBronco
VelocityBronco
@Mattwings Not at all. I was only asking bc I would argue that the 2.7 does not need a catch can at all, so save the money. The 2.3 could benefit from one. The installs are pretty easy from what I have seen, just replacing a couple hoses and mounting the can. I would think it could be done in the driveway with minimal tools?

@VelocityBronco You're probably right on this one... I was a little concerned about the hose under the left wheel. :)
VelocityBronco
VelocityBronco
@JakeC I don't know what kit you have or where the hoses are on the 2.3, so don't listen to me. I have also never installed one on any vehicle, but the process in videos seems straight forward.

I did mine in the 2.7. May be able to lend a hand if you want.

Watching the install videos, it’s probably not that hard. You do have to remove the fender liner to get at one side (prolly same as oil-change). :-D
Mattwings
Mattwings
@JakeC I think we should do it as a club activity and make a YouTube video of the process!

2.0 top replacement today. It is noticeably better than 1.0. Hopefully the seals and “rattles” that slowly creep in (until you clean all the seals with silicon, again) won’t be a problem anymore. Downside, I have to a one careful with this one 🤞🏽

My 2.0 is doing well. It was installed back in April. Didn't have any real issues with the top that came with it other than some of the rear defogger lines being damaged from the factory (replaced under warranty), and a slight slight squeak/rattle from the driver's side panel that developed after 3 months.
The squeak/rattle is non-existent now, though I suspect that's because the latches on the new one were much tighter than the original (actually had to loosen several of them up).
Mattwings
Mattwings
I have noticed the fit and sealing of the 2.0 is much better. The liner is better, really an improvement in every area (my 1.0 wasn’t bad either). I would be completely satisfied if the top didn’t have several small scratches from shipping 👎🏽

We have members on Facebook, B6G, Bronco Nation and our own site- https://michiganbroncos.club/ The club site should be a "one stop shop" for most things MI Bronco. We are working on some upgrades to the Forum and will continue to add content, rides and other cool happenings over time. We do have a ride coming up at Drummond Island in September and we had at least one group ride in the UP over the summer. My suggestion, join and help us recruit more members from the UP, we all want options of where and who to wheel with!!

Greetings Michiganians - I am from Texas but will be visiting the UP the first two weeks of October. We will be driving the 20hr trip in our 2022 Badlands.
I would like to have any recommendations on what to see or do while in the UP including any off road drives. We do plan on going to Drummond Island so any recommendations while there would be appreciated.
I will say this - I would like to stay away from hard/extreme trails as we will probably be alone and I don’t really want to push the envelope while on vacation.

thanks for y’all’s suggestions and I can’t wait to see y’all’s beautiful state for the first time.

So much great to see and so many two tracks to visit. There are so many 2 tracks around the Tahquamenon Falls area that are good drives to visit. Crisp Point Lighthouse is a great one o visit and the roads back sometimes require 4x4 so that would give you a destination. Kitch-I-Ti-Kippi is fantastic and I definitely recommend as well. Sault Ste Marie to see the locks are worth it. If you end up the Houghton area, the porcupine mountains are worth a stop and visiting the Lake of the Clouds. Heading up to Copper Harbor is a great drive too with lots of two tracks there as well. Shameless plug alert- I own a B&B in Grand Haven Michigan on Lake Michigan (Looking Glass Beachfront Inn) if you need a stop on the way up. Great views from our place. https://lookingglassmi.com/

Here is the design we are trying to get out for Dream Cruise (this is an experiment, may or may not be available for Friday/Saturday). I love the design and we can make them available “post event” if there is demand from members that attend. We plan on selling ride patches/stickers to raise money for the club (mostly seed money for “in stock” merchandise and to pay for website hosting and insurance).

A little update, I did call and am still listed as unscheduled clean which still beats balanced out which I have seen a few people say they are. Rep told me it isn't over until August 29th ;-)
Mattwings
Several people have asked for an update. We have set September 24/25 as the Drummond Island trail ride for 2022. We need to decide on lodging (feel free to make suggestions for the groups consideration). Anyone with prior experience at DI, DM me. I would like to have at least two groups set up so we will need two trail leaders.

More to come, stay tuned!

@Mattwings for real? I didn't notice that. I can't wait! This is really well organized. I'm insanely excited. The graveyard, map, it all sounds great. They are doing some off roading as well or a cruise through some towns. Sounds awesome.

Coming up to the dunes from Ohio on Friday. Do any of you know where we get our permit for the dunes and locally where we can get flags. I have mine but coming up with two jeeps who don't have. Not easy to get down here in Ohio.

You can buy the ORV stickers anyplace they sell fishing licenses (Not everyone in OH might know Meijer :)) I think they also sell them at the Silver Lake visitor center. let us know how it goes!

For the flags AND permits in one stop, I would recommend Babbitt's Powersports in Muskegon. It's right near where I-96 starts (EB)/ends (WB), about a mile or so from the US-31/I-96 interchange so it's easy to get on US-31 and finish the ride up to SLSD. Remember you need BOTH the ORV and ORV Trail stickers to get into the dunes.

Quick reminder, we have a club ride at Camp Grayling this Saturday. We are meeting just west of Grayling, off HWY 72 at the Fredric route trail head at 11AM. DM me if you plan to go or have any questions. Add your ph# if you want to be part of the SMS chat pre-ride. https://michiganbroncos.club/site/event/event-camp-grayling-trail-ride

*all Bronco models are capable of the ride (Sports included) but it does require 4wd.
