I'm in the same situation, still trying to decide on an antenna mount AND where to put the full size radio.

I use this one also. Very happy with it. Neat installation, normally out of sight blocked by the A pillar, but I can visually check if it is going to get tangled with branches. Very good reception. I do a weekly check-in with a group of SW USA GMRS users who operate a repeater network. Nearest repeater is 20 miles LOS distance with 3 mountain ridges in the way. I have no trouble sending or receiving to the repeater.I really do like the Rugged Radios bracket.![]()
What brand of mounts are those?
Yo! Love your channel and content format. Finally something I actually know about!
...Since my Bronco is primarily driven by The Wife, the only thing she will approve is a small ghost antenna.. I was planning on putting it on the front cowling, but i'm going to wait until see more pictures/ideas here.

Why didn't you just MARS/CAP modify your FT8800R and ditch the GMRS? Or did you not know?I used to have that rugged radios antenna mount, but switched to a Mountains to Metal mount due to the same problem (antenna bases not fitting). I have an antenna switch in the cab to switch from the 3db bull at antenna to a 6db a pillar antenna in that spot. Then I also have my HAM antenna mounted on the rear tailgate hinge.
yaesu FT8800R Ham radio is mounted above the glovebox using a mountains 2 metal bracket, and midland MXT500 mounted underneath the center console storage.
I also used to have the rigged radio waterproof radio mounted where the pic above shows it (on the transmission tunnel taking up the wife’s legroom) but moved the radio under the console when I switched to the 50 watt Midland.
