How do you feel about what the Fox Box ported enclosure did to the rear space?

Acquaintance in our group added similar one to his Jeep. Wired it as a quick disconnect so he can take it out when he off-roads. He loves the bass amplification when it is in and the rear is clear, but it eats up a big space.

I know it is a preferences trade off.
The Bronco bass delivery vs mounting option vs cargo space in the Bronco is discouraging.
I was looking to build a floating style of box when I stumbled upon Fox Acoustics. It was exactly as I envisioned with the added Bronco logo engraving. Its quality is fantastic. I have my full floor available with somewhere around 18-20 inches of space underneath. I installed speaker grills just in case, and you could add something to the top of the box as well. They show images of railing around the top to tie things down to. So it’s pretty functional. My only complaints are that the seats only lock in the more upright position and that when switching from my hard top to soft top for the summer I had to first remove the box and with the soft top the hardware interferes a bit with the soft top seal leaving a small area for a potential leak. Yet a brushless carwash did not produce a leak. As far as sound. I prefer sealed box performance. But for a ported enclosure it absolutely pounds. I chose the 10 inch variety because the 12in covers the hard top wiring/washer blanks in the drivers panel. I plan to install a wind break on top of the box for better wind control with the top down. This is not your “I just bought a new loaded luxury car with a powered sub”, It is more I can compete in SPL contests. It’s ridiculous Lol. In summation I would not have invested in this system without this box or one of similar design.

1st post here. Picked up 2026 Bronco Big Bend last week. Checked out Crutchfield and they recommended the SSV pods, Amazon has Mabett, and this is the first I read about Metra pods. Any reason why you chose Metra? Nice work by the way!
Choosing the T1 series speakers the coax part of the speaker was going to be an issue. The larger grill on the Metra gave me room to massage the grill for fitment plus from what I’ve read the Metra is a bit more stout and was well designed following the factory design language. I would have looked at the SSV pods but were more expensive and Amazon only had them with speakers which I didn’t need.

I bought the Mabett ones a while back, and strongly recommend going in a different direction.

They had some foam on the front panel to help keep them from rattling, but it will almost certainly interfere with your woofer suspension. It physically damaged one speaker, and I chased poor sound for a long time before I realized what was going on.

I don't know if the Metra ones have the same thing or not, they look ~very~ similar, but looking at the way the front panel is constructed (nearly all open grill mesh) I think it may avoid the problem. I am about to trash my Mabett ones and use some SSV ones to replace them - the SSVs don't have a front cover at all - you have to provide your own speaker grills, so that problem is eliminated.
There is no foam in the Metra pods. The included wire with grommet was very tight needing a pair of 12 in channel locks to drive them in. But over all the quality was OEM level. Plus one kit fits both 2 and 4dr. Unsure of Raptor fitment.

I’m looking to downgrade to an analog AM radio and crank windows 😂
Ford would do quite well with a Stripped down analog version of the Bronco. This should have been how the Heritage was marketed. All manual transmissions manual shift transfer case and power nothing with vinyl seats. Am/fm radio with a single dash speaker. Squared fenders and a swinging spare or interior with a dropdown tailgate.

Hertz MPBX300S2 tailgate mounted is hardly noticable space loss but the bass and front staging is amazing.
This was my alternate and I really wanted to run Rockford or JL for nostalgia purposes. Plus it was still quite expensive. The Fox Box and subs came in at just right around 950.00 with no wire routing into the tailgate or added with to the tailgate. Plus the first large item that slammed into the grill of the sub would drive me insane.

These look great, I got the Mabett 6.5 pods years ago, but would have gotten these if available.

Still cant get full sound out of the back, no matter what I do with ForScan, annoying. Used a Kicker key 200.4 for the stock 6 speaker that were all changed out to Kickers, and then added a Kicker 700w under the driver seat for my "12 tailgate sub. But even putting the sound mostly in the back, the rear sound is so much lower than the front. 3 years now and still cant get it right. Did all the ForScan tricks, unless new ones came out recently.

Thanks to all for responses and info. As much as I love Rockford, for the kick panels I have Kicker 6.75 CSC674 (46CSC674) already. Just ordered Kicker matched dash speakers from Crutchfield 46CSC44. Leaning towards the Metra pods as suggested and some Marine Kicker 6.75 for rear (maybe the LED ones for the family, have no idea if any good or just for show and weather). Went with matched dash speakers not for timber match, but price. There is zero chance Im going to create an incredible sound system on a budget with a removable top nor do I want to. However having a 31 year old Ford SUV, I know any decent name brand upgrade will be an improvement. Dash speakers have never really made much of an improvement on any vehicle I have ever owned but still am improvement over stock (usually). I also would like to research possiblity for sub in the passenger rear, there is a grill, appears to be epoxied on that Im assuming is for the B&O system. Bear with me, just getting started on Bronco research and upgrades. Still in that Newbie stage. Thankful for the first timer ever in car/SUV ownership, there are TONS of aftermarket options across the board for the Bronco. Have wanted one since they first came out and were $10k over MSRP.

Yeah the duties jack the price a lot I got for USD 470 equivalent on a sale. The sub grill seems indestructible!
