My '22 has almost 60k miles on the original windshield. The '72 has had the same windshield for the last 23 years - and has roughly the same windshield angle.

Maybe... try not to tailgate sand & gravel trucks as much and see if that improves your windshield's longevity?

😅 I came across yet another cracked windshield post this morning, and it got me thinking...

At this point, windshield cracks seem to be one of the most common topics in the Bronco community. Some owners make it years without an issue, while others end up with a crack surprisingly early.

Personally, I'm curious:

How long did your original Bronco windshield last before the first crack or major rock chip?

And for those who have already joined the "cracked windshield club" 🍻, have you found anything that actually helps?

I've seen owners mention everything from changing driving habits to hood deflectors and windshield protection film, but opinions seem to be all over the place.

Also, a bit of a selfish question from our side...

If Mabett ever looked into a Bronco hood deflector, is that something you'd actually consider installing, or do you think it wouldn't make much difference?

Interested to hear some real-world experiences.

I'm on my original windshield after four years. The trick is to leave plenty of following distance especially in conditions where stuff can be kicked up. This will not only protect your windshield but reduce rock chips in the hood. Added bonus -- you will be less likely to rear end the car in front if traffic comes to a sudden stop.
Gotta love all the don't follow too close advice that gets thrown around. I'm not sure how traffic is in those areas but here, if you leave any space at all someone is going to fill it quickly.

As a previous Jeep Wrangler owner, this is one area where Wranglers rule. Fold down the windshield onto the hood. Sure I may take a rock to the face, but as humans we are self healing while a windshield is not.
Science.
I once saw a Jeep with windshield folded down on the interstate and the driver was wearing a full face motorcycle helmet :)

Gravel trucks around here have those signs that read " STAY BACK 200 FEET- Not responsible for cracked windshields". I have always wondered if that applies to when they change lanes directly in front of you while leaving only 20 feet between ?

Original windshield on my 23 WT. It was hit by a rock (as well as my front curve in the hood) 6 months after I got it when a truck pulling a flat trailer swerved in front of me to hit an exit. His trailer bounced and threw several rocks up. I was pissed and would have followed him to say something- but I actually couldn’t make the exit at that point- that’s how F’ing obnoxious and dangerous the move he made was. I couldn’t even get a license plate or company name! So to all the “follow to close” people- give it a rest.

I’ve just decided it’ll happen again so as long as the 1” crack doesn’t grow, just moving on with it.

They say that around here, too... but a dash cam and a lawyer will have them buying you a new windshield. CA law says nothing except clear water and live poultry feathers allowed to leave ANY vehicle while on a public road. A rock truck with a sign hinting that they plan on shedding rocks is almost an admission of guilt...

That said... a thinking person doesnt tailgate them, any more than go wander about a sketchy neighborhood at 2 am with a handfull of $100 bills.in plain sight.

Still on the original but it’s cracked to heck and getting replaced soon made it almost 4 years.

I guess faceshields on motorcycle helmets are cheaper to replace than the windshield on a Bronco.

Personally I see this person as someone who does not fully commit to a project.

I had a 78' fj40 landcruiser and used to keep the windshield pinned to the hood. Never ate any rocks but I had a bugs on my teeth grin.....

They could make the windshields thicker. I had an 82 GMC that deflected rocks like a champ.
