Good price for a damaged (4 door) MIC top without glass?

I've got a factory soft top, but I've long wanted a hard top for winter & road trips.
Saw one listed a few hours away on marketplace, that includes the rear section, damaged as shown, without any of the glass & includes all 3 front panels.
It has one area of significant damage.

I'm thinking if I get this at the right price, it might be a good candidate to do some fiberglass work on & repair/paint & put glass into.
I'm not looking for something show quality - my rig already has more pinstripes than Yankee Stadium...

They're asking $1800, which I'm not willing to pay - anyone have a good read on what a fair price for this setup might be?
I was thinking more like $1100 would be fair, but I was curious what the opinons here would be.

There isn't any right answer except the first rule of negotiation is knowing what you think is fair or at least the most you'll pay and the second rule is don't go over it. I'd start maybe at $750 and don't go over $1100. $1800 for a busted top is a lot of money in my opinion.

They are just trying to see what they can get before scrapping it. They basically want you to pay them to haul it away.

The unseen damage is what will get you in the long run. These things are basically cardboard, who knows how much moisture has been sucked into it and how far.

Not worth the time or effort to me.

From what I've been able to tell, finding the front 3 panels as individual items is not easy.
I haven't seen any of these damages ones that included those...
That was mostly what made me consider it.

No, but I figured I'd be able to fiberglass that damaged area maybe?
Or bondo?
Not entirely sure. Something to make it look straight & keep water out & then paint the whole top was my idea.

That is something to consider. Then id consider paying the cost of the 3 front pieces and having him throw in the windowless backend piece for free.

1. These tops don't last. And this one is already used and abused
2. It's not like the first couple years of production where tops were scarce, every day there are more on the market and in junk yards

I also haven't seen anyone try to repair a top yet with any success

I paid $950 for a pristine 2dr top that I keep as a spare. It came off a 1st Edition complete with the front panels, all glass and the 2 Ford storage bags.

Soft top insulation is cheaper than a hard top.

Some just throw an old blanket between their Bimini top and the soft top, or a cheap 2" foam mattress.

West System Epoxy bonds just fine to it.

Oh, good point. I’m sure they have a perfect color match product. That’ll blend perfectly with the molded in color of the factory honeycomb hard top. Probably won’t even need to blend. Just disappear and look like it was never there.
