I had the same fear as you and followed the same procedure, not at all bad once I commited. Finally cut off my frame extensions in prep for my Lobo/Warn hidden winch install. This was a major, scary step for me. I was worried I would damage Smokey (my Bronco) or me.
Started out with an angle grinder but transitioned to a small sawzall. For me, sawzall with a Diablo Steel Demon Carbide blade worked better, too many sparks flying with the angle grinder to really see where I was cutting.
Now, just waiting on my Ford Performance fairlead to get delivered and soon I will be done!! Last major upgrade to my 2026 Badlands. Photos in no specific order.

Ticked over 100k earlier this week. Took ownership Aug of 2022. A little over 25k a year. Kicking off the next 100k this Sat with a 15-day round trip MN to MT (Glacier), and wherever I can get to in-between.
I heard about the flooding, hope it's dried out by next week. Didn't hear about the snow, dang, hope that's melted too. Stayed at Theodore Roosevelt NP a couple years ago, beautiful.Glacier is a fun place. Just recently received about 3ft of snow at the "Going to the Sun" road and I heard they have some flooding in the lower areas. We were there 3yrs ago, I think.
I am in the Bismarck, ND area.

How about how did you run the wire on the gate ? Through the vent flap ? or ?Today I finished up the install of the Wolfbox G900 TriPro on my Bronco. Yesterday I ran the wiring. Today I got the sd card and fired it up. Screen film, fuse based hard wiring and universal mount to replace my flip review it is strapped to arrive Friday.
So far I am digging it. There may be a few adjustments here and there. Especially for the front grill mounted camera. But I can now see out the back of my Bronco without my dogs head blocking the view.

And in case you lose the set screw for the manual mirror down the dash vent, like I did, I found the a good replacement. Apparently Ford does not just sell the set screws.

i ran it along with the other wires to the tailgate. I looked into using the grommet that passes the 3rd brake light wiring to the outside, but the connector would not pass through that tight opening. I ran the line, connected things up, tucked it into the tailgate apexing and then ran directly up to the third brake light on the surface. I have a tailgate table and it hides behind that. How about how did you run the wire on the gate ? Through the vent flap ? or ?
Here's an option that's a bit more blingy than nail polish:To avoid feeling stupid while sometimes having to look around each of my wheels 2 or 3 times for the valve stem, I've added some, "right here, ya dumb s#!t" indicators using nail polish.

I also split more kindling to add to the stacks of firewood I have in the garage.
Ready for fire ring and campsite fires now that it is summer camping season!
.....oh, and it's red flag warning, and burn ban, and tinderbox seasons as well. sigh...
