I had this on my list for a while and even made an attempt in April but was thwarted by snow and ice. I went back on July 5th and was much more successful.
Burley Mountain Lookout has some of the most epic views of the southern Washington Cascade in the Gifford-Pinchot Forest. At 5300ft it towers over just about everything, aside from the multiple volcanos in view. The climb up from the north side is fun but the roads on the south side are rutted and even more fun!
While I had planned to visit a couple waterfalls on the way home the first one was dry (boo!) and by the time we got down partway down the trail of the second one we decided the beers were more important. Gentlemen need to have their priorities.
