Picked up my 2023 Bronco today after having some recalls done and noticed it had 12 new miles on it. Dealer said it was because of Fords test drive policy, is this normal? Cause to me it feels more like a joy ride than a test drive.

And yes I added some mods myself
My Bronco had 5 or 6 miles upon purchase. I just bought a new Explorer and it had 50.....with a notice that it went through additional testing protocols. Fine with me.

I had 30 miles on my 24 with scratches on the windshield pillar where the passenger side roof panel was put on wrong and the inside roof locks were not engaged properly... So YES a joy ride!

And my tool pouch was empty!

Thanks EU Military Auto-Source!

After my first service - it was in Sport Mode... which I usually never am in...

So thanks Ford Portugal!

After recall work was performed I would not be surprised if calibration was required. 12 miles is less than 30 minutes of driving for typical drivers.

For reference I know someones Mustang that had been taken for a joy ride by a tow truck driver. Was a lot more than 12 miles and it came back damaged...

Dont sweat it. Glad Ford got you fixed up.

Thank you for this simple explanation.

Same with the cameras. Because the calibration after replacement requires driving it for a little while.
Wait it auto-calibrates now? No more targets on the ground?

Back in the day, working as as a detailed at a Chebby dealer:
I've driven several hours interstate for dealer trade vehicles.

Customer owned vehicles in for service:
If the mechanic needed it driven for an extended period they would often have us drive it out 10 or 15 miles and back to get them up to temp or maybe try to get an intermittent issue to pop up.

Or in OP's case, that is how they calibrate the cameras they repaired.

I started tracking mileage and out for service with all my vehicles since, when my Subaru SVX got back with almost 300 miles after service to replace ignition coil. You can request no drive after service, which I did with my Macan, as that dealer had a reputation for vehicle damage during their after service "test" drives.

Ah... well...

That suddenly changes my perspective on the target mats I bought from a bankruptcy auction for $150.

But ya know, that's pretty neat. 🙃

Those mats are (or were) very expensive, throw them on eBay for a couple hundred

Mine had something like 47.

Cars get driven to a holding lot, then onto a truck, then off of a truck, then onto a train, then off of the train, into a holding lot, then onto a truck, then to the dealer where it gets driven around the lot several times.

Sometimes Ford will do extra testing at the factory (like mine).

It's going to vary based on what the vehicle is, how it is transported, where it's going, etc. etc.

My Tremor had 4 miles on it at delivery.

My wife's Expedition had 30+ miles on it at delivery because a local dealer drove it up to our dealer (dealer swap), but the initial inspection at that first dealer shows 2 miles on the ODO.

Our Bronco had 4 miles at delivery, because it came in and went right on the showroom floor, where we found and bought it.

My '22 CTD had 250ish because it was a lot vehicle.

My '17 Wagon had 3 miles on it, even though it sat on a dealer lot for 6 months...evidently no one wanted a loaded-out Power Wagon.

I think mine was 11, but the last 4 new Fords I have bought been lucky on the extensive QA mileage or dealership joy rides. I tracked the braptor to within hours of it getting delivered wasn't going to give them a chance to go run to the store with it. We test drove a Ford last month and it had 400 miles already on it, figure that one was going to the dealer fleet.

My Aventon e-bike had zero miles on it when I got it. That's because it was delivered in a box and I had to put it together myself. First vehicle I ever owned that started off at zero.

Perhaps next time request the Bronco to be delivered only partially assembled?
