Leaving a single thing at home guarantees I'll need it that day, so I might as well just leave it in the car.
I totally understand and can relate to that, Happens all the time..

Me....because I brought home another vehicle without checking with the wife first. It was either the Raptor or the doghouse and the dog doesn't like to share her living quarters.

Not for a big trip—just the stuff that pretty much lives in there.

Tools, recovery gear, dog stuff, snacks, whatever.

She’s my daily driver and weekend warrior. I load her up with trail and recovery gear on weekends, and almost completely empty her (to clean everything) by the end of the weekend…except for mounted stuff like tailgate table, oasis trail cover, duh.

Here are a few of the things that stay in my Bronco, no matter what I’m doing or where I’m going:
umbrella & packable rain jacket
first aid kit
eye glass lens wash kit (also handy for CarPlay screen)
Orange Mud towels/car seat covers
windshield sun shade
sun screen stick
wipes
super glue (omg I use this all the time for tiny fixes)
flashlight
bar light
knife & EDC
insurance/registration paperwork
phone charger
faraday pouch
…and whatever is in my small sling purse.

EDIT: Flat kit, Bronco tool kit

With all the vehicles, if they have aftermarket wheels and lugs, I'll keep a breaker bar with the appropriate socket and extension in there near the spare/jack.

hoodie/sweatshirts for all of us
Rain coat/windbreaker jacket
jumper cables

maybe, depending on my mood or use at the time...

One item that no one has mentioned (and likely no one will) is my superstition coin. I always have placed a coin in every vehicle since I started driving and never remove it. The premise at the time when I started driving was that one could always make an emergency payphone call if needed. My mom always insisted. It made sense. Well payphones are obsolete so the coin is no longer necessary. But I am a little superstitious as so long as I had the coin, I never needed to make the call in the event of an emergency. So when I reserved my Bronco, I commissioned a custom coin.
