A real Jerry can is formidable monster of a can.
My modern cans are are great once you add a vent.

Lawsuits far more than govt intervention are the reason for gas can evolution.
And having to add things to return functionality to a product means that product is no longer functional in its present as sold form. Outside of narrow uses the new nozzles spill more gas than the old cans ever did.
