My Cheap Hard Top Hoist for Garage Ceiling

Here's my cheap method for hoisting my rooftop. Just using a cheap harbor freight hoist and couple of $8 straps. The Uchannel strut was about $25 at Lowe's. Total cost of everything was less than $135.00. It's cheap but it works for me. It's held up on four corners plus two straps on the bottom holding it up

Nice. I have a very similar setup, but my hoist is mounted through / on top of the unistrut. It looks like yours is mounted "into" the unistrut via some sort of rollers/trolley. Can you share more about that and if they are in fact rollers/trolley? Thank you.

I just installed one and used the following. They bolted right up. I did buy new/longer bolts for the thicker plate.

mine is a 2x6 with 2 straps and four hooks . same hoist from harbor freight. no need for rollers , it stays in place . I even left the roof rack on

I have a similar setup. I built a metal frame out of square tube steel so the lift force would be straight up then attached to my half-rack.

yes it is , but that hoist is the smallest they sell at HF. got mine for less than 100 bucks ( 96 ) don't quite remember it's been 3 yrs ago

I know this is late but... Yea I used rollers as someone else pointed out. Mine has 4 rollers and I bolted the unistrut to the ceiling 2x6 members using spax screws that didn't get in the way of the rollers so I didn't have to use unistrut hangers. I got them from aliexpress back in the day when tariffs (2024 BT, before Trump) were not a thing and it was cheaper than amazon. This is a 2-door roof so its lighter ?
