I have a brand new 2025 2.7L Badlands SAS bought in December. Saturday I went out for a drive and noticed the check engine light was on.

I checked the Ford Pass app and showed I had. Engine misfire, I used my OBS reader to check the code and showed a P0303 Cylinder 3 misfire.

I took it to my local dealership Tuesday and didn’t hear anything back until today.
They told me they replaced the coils and plugs but after that the misfire was still there in the same cylinder.
They told me the next steps are unfortunately to do an engine tear down because they think it might be a rocker arm issue, they heard a ticking noise while troubleshooting.

This has me really stressed out, I only have 600 miles on the Bronco and already having major engine work done.

This was my first new vehicle in over 20 years and now it’s gonna be in the shop probably longer than I’ve had it so far.

Just get a loaner or rental could be down for months, or a refund / exchange.

I’m past my 30 days refund period here in Texas so I would have to go lemon law route to get a refund, but that means more rounds of issues and fixes.

How was it running? Seems like they could have done some other troubleshooting.

I went through something similar with my Bronco with the 2.7L engine when I bought mine new in Nov 2024. I suddenly had very low power with less than 2,000 miles on it. The codes read misfire in #1, 2 and 3 cylinders. Sometimes the check engine light was solid but mostly flashing.

I took it to a Ford dealer and they could not find the cause after 10 days of diagnostics. I ask them if I should get Ford Engineering involved. They said they could do that. Ford Engineering could not understand what was going on either. They eventually decided to replace the six injectors for those cylinders.

That began a long process of obtaining parts and having them not fit and repeat and repeat. After 9 weeks, they finally got the right parts and it has run perfectly since then. I really had my doubts that the injectors would fix it but they proved me wrong.

I don't know if your problem is related but you might ask your dealer to contact Theodore Robins in Costa Mesa, CA to compare notes. If they want to do it, I can provide more information to help find the paperwork at my dealer.

9 weeks? In California it is considered a lemon after 30 days.

I didn’t notice any issues with it, but I have been babying it really since it was so new. But no sputtering or power loss that I could tell of.

I’m trusting the techs here mainly because my lack of knowledge of engines.

thank you for the heads up, I’m hoping it was just the rocker arm but have yet to get full confirmation from the tech.

9 weeks I don’t think I could get through and still want to keep the bronco.
To be honest this has soured my feelings about owning the bronco and I’m concerned with the long term reliability of the mechanical side of things.

If I hit the timeline of 25+ days of this not being fixed I’m going to probably look at lemon law and just try to recoup my losses and move on.

My 2.7 '24 Badlands non-SAS had a misfire day three of ownership, started running rough and I managed to get it off the road and turned off. Turned it back on after a minute and it ran fine. Drove it home another few miles without any issue. Took it back to the dealership but they couldn't find an issue other than my car's history showed a single cylinder misfire that was no longer happening. No clue what caused it but it hasn't done it since.

Got confirmation today that it was a lifter that caused the issue. Now they have to send everything to Ford for approval and to also see if they will just fix the issue or give me a new engine.

I’d like feedback from anyone willing to weigh my options here.

Does all this effect trade in value if I decide to?

Would you keep the vehicle if you were in my situation?

Brand new vehicle needs new engine? I would ask for a replacement vehicle. That totally would effect your resale value.

I’m frustrated to because I’ve spent a decent amount getting ppf applied to the vehicle and if I ask for a new vehicle I’m eating that loss as well.

Ask to be comped for the ppf.

I reached out to my original dealership to ask what they can do for me and the only option they gave me was a trade in after the repairs are done.
This is insane

They are not going to give you a new vehicle. You can attempt to do a buyback through Ford but that will take several weeks for approval. And buybacks are usually reserved for major issues and those they can't figure out.

I get it, it sucks that your brand new Bronco is in the shop at only 600 miles, but replacing a lifter is not that big of a deal and I would surprised if they swapped out the engine as the fix.

As far as showing up on a Carfax or harming resale value, I am unsure. Maybe @Ducati1098 can shine some light on how this type of warranty work gets reported.
