Well,
it took me good 2 months to upgrade my audio system and ditching Vietnamese paper woofers out of new Bronco. Well worth project !
I started with sound treatment entire car accepts under front seats.
Since I am audiophile and at heme I have build specific listening room I wanted to recreate front stage 3 way system in my car and since my wife and I do lots of overloading we had extra space after deleting rear seats for the outdid components and large T Line sub enclosure.
below is the audio system I installed in my Bronco.
Main amp LC 6-1200 Sound Control 1200w 1.100$
Subwoofer mono amp JL JX - 500 w 280$
Kick panel 6.5” woofers Hertz Mille Pro 165.3 1.200$
Midrange 3” drivers Rainbow ML 3 400$
Tweeters 1” Audison Voce 1.1 400$
Subwoofer single 10” JL 3W 3-4ohm 380$
In this project I ran my own speaker wires and used LLJ harness and speed wire to run it to the head unit and back to my audio amp.
in order to run 3” and 1” two drivers in the dash I had to modify and create plated to fit 2 new speakers there. I came out with idea of using exiting plate and just sandwich between new plates I have custom build out of Kydex plastic using exiting plate I was able to snap back in the same position.
I could perhaps build nice and flush with dash plate but don’t have 3D printer and I wanted to have both driver exposed.
Since I removed my rear seat I had good place to mount my 2 amp rack bolted in same spot where seats were , it worked perfectly !
still working on the proper ventilated enclosure to cover amp rack.
Next was the sub enclosure, since I had all ten rear seat floor room I build and designed T line style subwoofer it has 108” t line ( labyrinth type of channels ) where speed of sound travels from the sub than out of the enclosure.
The length of the T line is dictated on few factors and my 10” subwoofer specifications.
What kind of sound do I experience from my 10” single down firing subwoofer
its very articulated , fast , tight not boomy it’s what I was after and with 500 watts amp it has very nice power reserve.
My 3 way front dash and kick panel speakers are Tri Amped via AudioControl 6 Ch 1200 watts amp.
With total of 1700 watts combined you can get very clean audio reproduction w/o putting any strain on speakers or amps.
AudioControl amp it’s so capable with so many tuning capabilities that it’s ton of fun to adjust it all and be happy with the sound.
There is no scale to rate Bronco stock audio to aftermarket.
Vietnamese drivers look and sound like something out 1800’s haha Its joke what Ford put in their cars even now days !
When I played for the very first time few tracks on the new system I was totally blown away how louder , cleaner and more detailed sound came out of the 3 ways system.
If is matched with right drivers it can sound amazing but 3way can sound worst than say 2 way set up if is not properly run.
Matching Italian made tweeters and midwoofers and German made midrange Rainbow Germanium was icing on the cake !
my last 2 project is to build enclosure to cover sub and amp rack so it can be used fir loading camping gear and build 2 nice big drawers in the rear cargo area.
Below are few images from the project !
