Has anyone successfully tapped the DRL and used for other lighting in conjunction with the AlphaRex headlights?

Asking because when I tried today, the DRL halo on the AlphaRex headlight that I tapped from wouldn't light up. I'm thinking the AlphaRex draw more power than the stock headlights.

I don't know why you would tap stock wiring when you can buy in line harnesses that give you a place to connect to without messing up wires by tapping them.

Check out @SPVPARTS, https://specialtyperformanceparts.com/ for a possible harness for your situation.

the headlights are plug and play. I used the SPV DRL adapter above to also connect the rigid radiance back lights.

Yup, just not sure if it’s an issue with the adapter or if the AlphaRex just pull more power than the stock lights.

I think I saw the gest of this.

So here is the issue. Ford has made these trucks very sensitive on circuits to load. Our headlight adapter works perfect without any intervention without tripping the cut off for (depending on brand) up to a 40” light bar, 3 fog lights and a pillars all with backlights.

However, the Alpha Rex headlights are power hungry hogs. And they do draw more power than the stock ones for sure.

So the combination just takes the power draw over Fords limit and the computer says “shut off that circuit”.

Think of it like a scale of 1-10.
the stock headlights use 6. That leaves 4 for add ons. Say all the lights I mentioned use 3. That totals 9. Your still under 10
So all good.

The Alpha Rex headlight use 9 by themselves. That means your other stuff now puts it over the mark.

So, how to fix that without losing capability is to just plug in one of our relay adapters between the headlight adapter and where it feeds to all your backlights.
The relay adapter has a 30 amp fuse/circuit and it only uses the power from the headlight circuit to turn it on.

The wire that says “switch” goes to the end of the headlight adapter. The red wire/connector that says “to harness” goes to the rest of your backlights, splitters, etc.
The 2 rings go on the battery.

With that, you now have virtually no restriction to how many backlights you can have.

wow thanks for the response John, that makes a lot of sense. I tried it again today because I thought maybe I had an extra ground somewhere. Today it seemed to work right off the bat!

Now, there were several times as I was tying back the wiring that the halo on the drivers side light would not go on, when I unlock the truck. I found though that if I cycle the DRL off and then back on inside the truck it seems to work fine from then on.

I’ll keep an eye on it for a bit and if it’s problematic I’ll add this relay (unless you recommend I just do that anyway!

thanks @SPVPARTS!!

So after trying to tap into my DRLwire from the headlight, the halo (driving lights) on my 2023 Frod Beonco stopped working. How do I reset It?

If you used the SPV parts harness you should be able to reset it by turning on the headlights or turning off the truck and then back on. It’ll still trip again next time though, if you want to prevent this you’ll need to install their relay (available on their site). I had to do this and everything’s worked perfectly since.

Are you saying this happened to you when installing our harness or something else? I looked through our system and didn't see any orders for you under your name, so I'm just wondering what exactly you were using to tap into that circuit? If it was our harness, give us a call or text us and we would be happy to step you though fixing your issue with it.

Thanks!
