Its just what happens when your Bronco gets excited. I know it can be embarrassing, but its completely natural and you shouldn't worry about it.

If your top was not firmly attached to the crossmembers the aero-lift would be the whole roof. Watch the next Wrangler softie you see, to my recollection the entire roof lifts, meaning no attachment to folding crossmembers under.

Any softtop will do this

I see most convertible tops bulge outwards on the highway. The bigger the top, usually the more the bulge.
