Auto headlight sensitivity settings

I'm starting to see a pattern. The ones that have ceramic tint on the windshield are having this issue only, which means the ceramic is blocking more of whatever the sensor is reading.

That makes sense, good observations. Would've never thought of that honestly

Any type of tint or coverage of the sensor is going to affect it. The sensor is controlled by sun light. Which is why it's called a sunload sensor.

I'm going to have to say yes and no. Ceramic tints block 99% of UV radiation (which is what is responsible for the feeling of heat), whereas regular tint does not. Since sunload sensors detect total solar heat, not lumens, the sunload sensors may not feel the solar heat, assume it is dark, and will trigger the proper response based on it's set parameters.

Now I'm no expert so take this with a grain of salt, but that's the direction I'm beginning to lean towards.

No. UV radiation and solar heat have nothing to do with the sunload sensor. It's just light in general.

You can literally shine a normal flashlight on it in the dark and your lights will turn off.

If the sun isn't shining directly on the sensor, my headlights will turn on, even if the sun is slightly behind me, beyond the roof line, but it is bright still very bright outside.
I wish I could run some comparison tests.

It's likely a photovoltaic cell, which as Ducati1098 states, doesn't give a rats a$$ about heat or UV.

Anecdotal evidence (i.e. it only affects people with ceramic tint based on a sample size of like 3 people) isn't really evidence.

Regular tint does affect it. I have a normal, non-ceramic windshield tint of 30% and it drastically affected my autolights

Well, you could've led with that, you know.

Easy test..
Cover sensor with a towel... lights turn on.
Shine any type of light you want on the sensor.. lights turn off.

The test I wanted to conduct was how the sensor was affected by light passing through the 2 different types of tint. But I find that test irrelevant now.
