Bad battery?

Hello all, long time bronco fan ,took drivers test in one in 79. Also owned a 72 bronco few years back, now it’s a first edition 2 door.
So I went to the dealer to have the backup screen recall and they couldn’t finish it because the battery is bad? Now I’ve been a master technician for a few decades (retired) and I KNOW that the battery was fine. And it only has 27500 miles on it (I’m third owner) and in all my years I’ve never seen this happen. Thoughts?

Batteries don't care about miles. And FoMoCo lacks, as do most OE batteries, a reputation for long life. Making matters worse is many nowadays seem to go from working to crap with little notice.

With the age of your, it sounds like you are on borrowed time...

I hear ya, just like the 5 recalls 2 of which they haven’t found a solution for yet.
Honestly it’s my first newish vehicle and when I was working I never heard of it and the battery is still low., it’s all good they are replacing the battery.

Ya unfortunately car batteries aren’t what they used to be. New cars over last 10-15 years I’ve been lucky to get 4 years out of the battery. Computers really shorten the lifespan on newer vehicles

I Just replaced mine recently 2022 base, had my app throw me a bunch of weird error codes shortly after startup for various system things… noticed some slight rough idling and then noticed it was overcharging on the voltage screen on the display. Couldnt get the battery above 12 volts and was consistently charging it at 15.5 on the display. Swapped in a new battery.. good as new.

If it's the OEM battery, it's about time. The battery management system and continuous draws are hard on the batteries in these cars, and 3 years to dead is not uncommon.

I had a similar issue. Went with the Optima Yellow Top DH7

Mine went bad for no reason after 2 years. Got an Interstate at Costco has been great. Figured just a Ford thing...

My 22 OBX… I think I am going to need my 3rd battery. Testing all on Thursday. Hardly any short trips in my schedule. My baby goes to sleep and then I can’t start it from the app which is not acceptable. Always works great after a new battery regardless of environmental temps, short trips, days not driven.

Expect max 3 years from Ford Batteries and 2-3 from costco branded batteries with no hassle warranty.

However Costco recently changed the warranty to being pro-rated not full replacement.

I only bought one Costco battery since I bought a membership for fuel and tires until I saw the fuel lines and overpriced tires with horrible tire staff, same prices as everywhere else and rude people inside LOL never went back after my battery does at year two and they would only refund not replace.

Overall 0.5 out of 10 experience.
