Ford Bronco Base bronco 2dr tire upgrade suggestions bronco

Hello--must of looked through hundreds of posts but can't make a decision and need a little help. Here's my current Bronco setup:

OEM wheels off a Ranger 17" +55 offset
Firestone 265/70/17 Destination AT2 (very good tire so far)

Looking for a more aggressive and taller tire keeping same wheels. Want to fill out the wheel well better and gain some ground clearance.
Priorities are 95% on road use/commuting daily driver, 5% dirt/fire roads/light offroad--so tIre noise and comfort more important than heavy offroad ability.

Possible sizes: 285/70/17 or 285/75/17. No lift (yet).
Tires: BFG KO3, Nitto Terra Grappler G3, Toyo Open Country ATIII

Please give me your opinion as to which size might look the best as well as which tire you may recommend.

Thank You! Appreciate any suggestions before I make a final choice.

I went with Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT's (D load rating) and I am happy with my choice, they look fantastic, ride smooth and quiet, but I did lose about 1-2 MPG, most likely because of the extra weight.

I've got hanook dynapro extremes 285 70R 17 mounted on Ford Tremor rims from a Ranger on mine. Quiet on the road and pretty grippy off road...

I don’t know why ya want a more aggressive tire if ya on the road so much but you be you…I would recommend a 33” “street” tread with a sl or c load range…Michelin or Pirelli ought to have something…good luck

I have the 255/85r17 Mickey Thompson Baja Boss on the same wheels you have - I have been very happy with them. Definitely on the heavy side, but they have been really good so far and look great. Haven't yet had them on any kind of real trails but that is coming soon.

Another MT fan here. I put the MT Baja Boss on mine. 255/85 17. 34.6" and I just removed the crash bars.

K03 might be more than you need, the Toyo’s would be a safe bet, but if it was me, I might go with the G3’s - initial feedback have been positive and the would certainly fit your 95/5 bill, good luck

Keep the Ranger wheels
285/70R17 (no lift)
285/75R17 (lift)

Due to your “95% on road use”

Thanks for all the replies. Never really considered the 255/85/17 size as I thought it might be too skinny but then again never really saw one up close. I'll check into those. Any handling issues since that size is much taller than the stock size but same width?

Confidence. I take my BB on fireroads and occassionally have hit some ruts that made me desire more traction. I got past them with my Duelers, but I'd prefer a bit more. Eventually, I plan on some Firestone destinations or general grabbers in 285/70/r17.

I have a Base like you, current running 285/70r17 on +55 wheels like yours. Excellent size for a 2-door Base, looks great and handles well.

I will be sticking to this tire size in the future because it just looks perfect on a 2-door.

My next set of tires will be SL rated. I have a set of E-rated tires, and a set of C rated. Both are overkill for what I use my Bronco for.

There are some really good tires that come in SL-rated 285/70r17’s.

1) Mickey Thompson Baja Boss (as mentioned up thread)
2) Nitto Ridge Grappler
3) Cooper Rugged Trek (my current favorite)
4) Toyo AT3
Lots more, I think Tire Rack lists 17 tires in that size being SL rated.

This is an excellent video that sold me on going SL on my next set of 33’s.

My suggestion is to wear out your firestones before you get something different. Based on what you described the firestones fit the build quite nicely. Are you just going after looks?

What is the width of your ranger wheels? The photo looks like those are black diamond wheels.

I am very happy with how the Bronco handles on these "pizza cutters," but note that I had them put on shortly after installing a set of Eibach Protruck coilovers with new UCAs and a new adjustable tracbar.

Below is a picture of a stock ride height BD 2 door before and after the MTs. It was one of the posts that convinced me to get the MTs.

A picture of my setup is also below - note that mine is a non-SAS and I'm now lifted about 2.5" over stock and about 1.5" over a stock SAS. I also have spacers to push the wheels out a bit.

ok good choice on size…in that case I would still recommend a SL load range but in a All terrain…Yokohama makes a good one imho, but tires are so good these days about any of them will work fine…good luck!
