I haven't had the issue either since I added the padded top cover.
So I actually see why the console pad cover works in keeping the lid open. The pad comes down the side a bit and touches both front seats slightly providing enough friction in my scientific estimate to allow the center console lid to remain open. So folks should just spend $15, protect their console lid, and prevent it from closing prematurely or when unwanted.

Yep, nice demonstration. My elbow thanks me for buying that padded cover.

Thank you Alex for uncovering this and for speaking out. Since owning mine for 3 years I've simply thought this was just a weak design or an engineering oversight so I'll definitely be working on it this weekend.

I've worked in manufacturing for over 35 years and in my experience it's not uncommon for minor (non-critical) assembly errors like this to stay unresolved for several years. It's primarily due to lack of complaints and also due to the fact that new products sometimes get assembled incorrectly from the very beginning then that incorrect method simply gets passed down from assembler to assembler and become the norm until someone recognizes the error. Hopefully Ford takes note of your post and works to resolve the issue permanently. Thanks

I scanned this conversation mostly to see if I was the only one in this situation… 😂. Fom brand new, my console lid rubbed on my drivers side seat enough to leav it in any position more than a few inches open. It was obvious to me the entire console is probably a little too close to the drivers side, but everything is tight with no rattles, so I didn’t want the dealer messing with it.

Then I added that same padded cover and it’s even tighter, but opens and closes fine. And the cover is good for elbows and occasional dog nail protection. I am officially no longer upset about the uneven console installation I guess.

Yeah. Where's FordBot when you actually need him versus generic comments on pre-production threads?
