If this is a MIC aka “molded in color” top why in the world does it sand down to reveal white substrate?

SWEET!!!! What do you think MAACO would charge to do this?

I don’t know about maaco ( I’d never use) but my shop said 1,200 to 1,500 and they guarantee satisfaction.

It’s the dust that makes it look that way. It isn’t really white.

So is the top image the after or before? Linex then paint or linex over the painted top?

both are images of Linex coated tops. One shows a standard black, the other custom coloured, a feature Linex offers.

Line-X is a rubberized spray on coating (most often used as a truck bed liner). They’ve got franchises across Canada. Impeccable work and relatively inexpensive. My wife’s short box F150 was $600 to spray.

Is he interested to hear what they did for prep. And I want to see how it looks once the paint cures and the panels shrink a little.

There is a flex additive for auto paint that should work

Its beautiful but have to be honest I like the unpainted MIC top just as well, and there is no worries about scratches. I also like the looks better than the 4-runner. Don't get me wrong I'm sure the 4-runner is a great truck, but simplicity is beauty. You can see elements of Lexus styling in the front of the 4-runner. I'm sure some love it, not my thing.

With modern paint finishes, both automotive and marine, there's no reason the MIC top can't be painted, in my mind. I'll love to see future posts here of this project!

How hard would it have been to get an actual picture from the side or front with the top mounted on the vehicle?

For a white top I'd be perfectly happy for it to have the textured MIC finish. I wouldn't care that mine wasn't sanded down to smooth for a gloss finish to mimic a painted MOD top. All I'd care about is the white staying white and staying attached to the plastic underneath it.

Don't get me wrong I'm sure the 4-runner is a great truck, but simplicity is beauty. You can see elements of Lexus styling in the front of the 4-runner. I'm sure some love it, not my thing.

Even Helen Keller thinks the 4Runner looks like butt.

I'm thankful for what's shown. This top is beautiful. I wouldn't take an unpainted MIC top if it were free after seeing this.
