It's ridged for more...grip.

Conspiracy theory: it's textured to make it harder to stick those suction cup mounts. Gotta buy and use their rail accessory.
And that creates the next problem Im sure...if you get a 4dr Badsquatch with the 2.7, Im sure it would tell us that its not available with the 2.7 if it were listed on the B&P. Oh and Im sure it would tell FE people that its only available on the 2door lol.

I am not sure I understand your post. From some of the pics, it seems the Outer Banks has a smooth dash (looks like metal) while the dash on the other trims are not?

A Ford engineer had a white OBX 2dr with the navy pier interior at some local mountain bike trails here in metro Detroit a while ago(Island Lake), and that's one of the things I asked him about. I was wondering why the OBX got a hard plastic upper dash, when I had seen the soft touch material on lower trims. Didn't make sense, but apparently they are all getting it.
