The Stellantis merger has already gone through the courts (to give some frame of reference to how long this has been in the works).

The big difference is that JEEP will now be subsidized by the French government during their next bankruptcy (you know there will be another round of taxpayer handouts soon with the current economy!) and Ford will be subsidized by the American government.

Although both automakers billed this as a 50/50 merger, PSA is technically taking over FCA in the final deal. PSA's current CEO Carlos Tavares will become CEO of the combined

I think back in the late 80's early 90's the wrangler used a Peugeot transmission.

Peugeot is part owned by the French government

And 12.2% of Peugeot (PSA) is owned by Dongfeng a Chinese auto maker.

Dongfeng is part owned by the the Chinese government.

FCA and PSA own 14 brands of cars.

This is getting complex, a French Italian Chinese auto maker.

The only reason why PSA was purchased in the first place was JEEP. Literally the only profitable brand in the stable was JEEP. The rest was having access to tarrif-free production here in the US and scaling back the ridiculous Chrysler products making room for the ménage à trois of showrooms with American, French and Italian brands.

Rumor on the streets is that you have to pay to enter those showrooms. Blue towels optional (curious if anybody gets the blue towel reference......)

So if you buy a Jeep next year you’re dealing with the communist Chinese govt? Oh well. The Belgians bought Budweiser a while ago. Taste the same to me. ?
