If you bought a grille from the Parts Department, it would come primed and ready for whatever paint you want.
I just took my Badlands grille, which had the factory Carbonized Gray finish, and brought it to my local body shop and had them paint it with PPG Shadow Black. I am not sure what kind of prep work they did, but its been holding up great so far.

They’ve held up better than expected. Gone through the was multiple times and no issues. Definitely apply heat after putting them on and they stay put
