They’ve held up better than expected. Gone through the was multiple times and no issues. Definitely apply heat after putting them on and they stay put
Thanks- yeah I found that heat was definitely key when I did the Ford emblem blackout.

I am not seeing the full set of letter overlays on their website... only the 'R' I hope Ford didn't give them a hard time about it.

II'm really curious to hear if anyone painted the original grill themselves with rattle can paint - how did you prep the surface, what kind of primer/sealant/adhesion promoter did you apply first, and what brand rattle can paint did you use? any problems with paint reactions (wrinkles, lifting, etc)

Light scuff, primer and truck bed coating. Used Rust oleum Truck Bed Coating. Been using it on stuff I want to match textured bumpers, shackles etc. for years.

See video of full process and materials I used below including prep. Worked great and held up great one year later, no chips and bugs wipe right off.

Finally got the grille painted, at a local shop that the Ford dealer uses. I wanted more contrast with Area 51 body paint, so I asked for “Ford matte black” (like Black Diamond and Base grilles). It came back darker than I expected- more of a deep satin black like the Outer Banks’s grille.

Be very specific on the color you want! I expect dirt, bugs and weathering will tone it down a bit over time.

Here’s the before and after (right out of the paint shop):

Don’t be embarrassed, I have too. Haha

And I agree, it’s the coolest tribute I have seen.

What is is a tribute to? Being color blind? Bad taste? What am I missing here?
