I am installing a set of diode dynamic lights and I can't figure out if there is a top/bottom to them. The last set I put on my mustang it had top stamped on the lense.
How can I tell if I am installing them upside down? Or does it not matter.
Thanks

All my DD lights have something on the lens so I can tell what’s up or down… 🤷🏼‍♂️

Doesn't matter, as you can take the lenses out and flip them. But yeah, there usually is some small print on the label, and some of the lenses do have an orientation (you can see a difference in left half/right half if you look close)

I think the pigtail for the wiring comes out the center of the back and it really doesn't matter how you orient them, and even if they do have a wiring orientation just make them all match for aesthetics. Apart from making sure the lenses match up for LH/RH...

My DD SAE lights are stamped in the center but if they are spots or floods it really does not matter…driving and fogs should be marked somehow…

Here’s a fog - no real left or right orientation

Ford Bronco Diode Dynamic lights IMG_2072

Here is a combo - you can see it has a left and right. Honestly - I have no idea if this is upside down or not, no discernible marking that I could find on the outside but I seem to recall a small stamp on the lens where the seal would cover - it’s been a while though. I do have the passenger side flipped so the cross hatch is outboard and the vertical hatch is inboard.

The OP has a good question. I can say they work ok in my application but I wouldn’t know if they were backwards or not.

I need to flip two of the combo light lenses on my setup (either right side or left side). Right now they are all oriented in the same direction, and it doesn’t look balanced!

I ordered SAE lights and don't see that making on them also. Maybe got the wrong set of lights.

At least for the combo lights - they wouldn't have an up or down - they would have an inside and outside.

I also have a set of SAE Driving lenses, but they are similar to the fogs - no difference in orientation.

Might be a good question for DD support. The 3 light set i got was not pre-oriented by DD. The mounting lug/brackets are on top of LED housing for the modular bumper mounting plate. The lens on each of the combo lights were all oriented same way. No mention in instructions about flipping lens.

Thinking about it some more - these lights don’t have a vertical cutoff like the low beam headlamp. The difference in lens placement by the width of the light won’t really affect anything horizontal either.

So I think it doesn’t really matter at all

Left/right should not matter (except for looks) but top/bottom on fogs and driving lights does…may not say “top” but any lettering should be ”right side up”…if no lettering there should be a pretty clear “cut off” on the top of the light pattern…at least in my mind…

I pinged @4x4TruckLEDs.com while installing and they said lenses have an orientation for the SAE> I flipped them so that the writing was correct when installed in the bumper.
Still get flashed with them on and properly adjusted though ;)

I retract my previous statement. Took a moment to look at the rear- there is a clear vertical orientation when you look at the wiring harness

I just could not tell you which way is up. Closer pods are SS2s, the furthest is an SS3 - both are distinct.

Depends on what you got.

SS3 allow you to install the bracket in 2 ways, so that the light is always right side up. Basically just look at the lens and you'll see the little "D" on the lense. Make it right side up.

So as long as the D is right side up, it's oriented right.

For what it's worth, the only lens that has a CORRECT orientation is the FOG lens. The others can be upside down/right side up and it won't matter. But the FOG has a slight arc to it.

With SSC2 the orientation does not matter, as I said above. But you can look at the bezel and there will be a D on the bezel. Right side up with the "D" and you are good.

The bracket on the SSC2 also mounts on the bottom so that it "SITS" right side up.

The FOG lens will also have an SAE writing in the corner, if it's right side up it's proper.

IF you are hanging your lights for a fog kit, for example, well the SS3 can be oriented properly without an issue but your SSC2 will HANG now upside down. That only matters with the FOG as I said so you will want to FLIP that lens around. When doing so, you need to shave off the TINY index part on the back of the lens. This is built in so that when the diode techs build the lights, they index it right. Use a knife, shave it flat and you can rotate the lens so that it's oriented properly when the light hangs.

Also, make sure to flip your bezels.

Whenever a customer buys one of our FOG KITS, we flip the lenses for you at our shop before shipping them. There will be a label on the box indicating this (if we flipped the bezels/lenses ahead of time for you).

It's one addtional step we do for our customers.

Did you get SAE Driving? Some Diode Dynamcis DRIVING lenses no longer have the SAE stamp on them. Not 100% sure WHY that is, but some of them just don't.
