Isn't this the guy that didn't know BD had blue accents until it showed up?

I wouldn't rule out operator error just yet.

At least all of this can probably be corrected with a software/firmware update. I had 3 fire related recalls for my 2012 Jeep JK, lol.
Are the OTA updates just for the Sync system, or for the entire vehicle? I was under the assumption it was just for the infotainment, but could very well be wrong.

I see the ABS light is on when he has trouble. My son's Tacoma had an ABS wheel sensor (actually the wiring) go out and it would not shift into 4x4. This is sad. Ground clearance issues also :( somebody quick post a happy talk video!

he was climbing a hill in 2wd and you can hear something grind up immediately

now im new to off roading but in my opinion you shouldnt be off road trying to climb anything unless you are in 4wd

why would he be climbing through ruts and hills in 2wd

While 4wd helps you out off road, driving in 2wd shouldn't break anything.

Also, while tires were slipping and immobile the dash indicator showed 4wd engaged, something is amiss...

I would have tried to back up and take the torque bind off the drivetrain. It might have made a difference.

honestly this is a case that reminds of the today's Land Rover Defender, with all its legendary capabilities, hampered by numerous and repeating software issues.
