UPDATE: Finally got the issue fixed. Apparently this was a software bug in a specific BMS software version. I installed the newest version with FDRS after seeing a Ford service bulletin about this issue and everything works as it should now.

-----------------------

I enabled, via Forscan, to have the taillights enabled when the DRLs are active.

With that setting enabled I am running into the same issue I had when changing the front DRLs to amber, after I turn of the car, the taillights now stay on for 10 minutes (with the amber DRLs the front DRLs stayed on for 10 minutes as well).

Has anyone figured out how to get them to turn off with the car? I get so many people telling me I left my lights on that it is annoying, and I even got paged on a ferry this week to turn my lights off. So the setting is disabled again.

Mine doesn't do that and I've been running tails with DRLs since I purchased my truck new back in March. Sounds like you may have to revert modules back to the saved versions and try again....seems you've been in there messing around with stuff and may have botched something

What’s the purpose of having your taillights on all the time?
seems like it would make the car behind you think your riding your breaks or getting ready to stop at any moment.

It isn't enabling the brake lights, just the taillights. It is mandatory in some countries as studies have shown a decrease in accidents, just like with front daytime running lights.

Yeah, I might restore my As Build I pulled when I got the truck since it seems nobody has had this happen. Thanks for the reply!

Required for truckers and I've never seen anyone slamming in their brakes behind them lol

I bet that'll fix it. I changed mine using the easy method in Forscan

Ok so you’re doing this as a sort of increased visibility during the daytime.
thanks

From what I read, some of that decrease went away once daytime running lights became more of a norm, hence standing out less. Also I wonder what is the cost to operate lights full time, in particular multiplied by millions of vehicles?

If it avoids someone hitting me, then I don't care if it cost me 50 cents a year to run the lights :)

Without knowing any statistics, I would still guess that the increased cost of running the lights are far out weighted by the social and material savings of the accidents they prevented.

A quick search indicates some plusses/minutes. On the possible down side: "Daytime running lights are controversial because they can reduce fuel economy, can cause daytime glare, and mask the visibility of turn signals."

There's no free lunch, but I'd bet overall daytimes help some in terms of other's seeing a vehicle. Personally I don't like running the lights during the day, so as a danger loving guy I'll assume that risk. :)

DRL's cause a few problems:
People that think they are safer, dont realize they have no tail lights when driving in rain, snow or fog. I've seen a truck pulling a Trailer in the fog.........DRL's on but no tail lights or trailer lights.
DRL's do not usually turn on side marker lights especially the rear that are integrated as part of the tail light. The Bronco has a small front side marker. Is that on when the DRL's are on? Most are not.........I havent noticed on the Bronco.

Safer to use your brain and select the lights to ON instead of using Auto when visibility is reduced.

I personally think that car makers should not be allowed to illuminate the dash when the headlights aren't on. I hate it when folks are rolling around in the fog, dusk/dawn, with just their DRLs, yet probably thinking that their lights are on since their dash is all lit up. With more cars going with digital dashes, I am guessing this will get even worse.

My Volvo has a stupid design in this regard. When auto headlights are enabled it shows the headlight symbol on the dash, even if the lights aren't on. So there is no way of knowing if the lights are actually triggered or not, especially since the DRLs are bright enough to reflect of signs. At least the Ford has an actual indicator on the dash. Having had fog for the last few weeks here, probably a good two thirds of cars just had their DRLs on instead of their actual lights 😡

Exactly! DRL's/Auto mode create more issues than they solve.
