Believe it or not, there is a significant difference in the engine sound with it turned on and off. It can be turned on or off with Forscan and that is not imaginary.

The fake sound only come on during moderate acceleration and gets louder as you accelerate harder.

Is this actually legit? I know someone said MY24…. But what years/trims is this on by default? Is there verification this is actually a thing?
So let me get this straight... Ford intentionally distorts the music coming through their expensive Bang & Olufsen sound system by piping in fake engine noise? Unbelievable. Most people who like music actually want engine noise reduced, not amplified. But maybe that's just me.
I’ve had my Badlands for a month. The engine sound is fake? LOL! I’m going to clip a playing card to my wheel ā€œspokesā€ like I did to my Schwinn Stingray in the 70s, so I can get that great motorcycle sound. šŸ˜‚

Yes, it's a real thing, and frankly the overwhelming majority of people have no idea. Usually it doesn't come up until they go to upgrade their sound system, screw up their gain structures on their amps, and suddenly the engine sounds MUCH louder than it was before. It's called "Engine Sound Enhancement" or ESE for short.

@Brian_B is correct. For the Bronco....

Well… shit. Thought my 22 BL Lux just sounded good. Maybe I’ve been bamboozled. I hate when companies do things like this without informing customers. Pretty sour taste about it, here. Ford customer support bot, care to chime in?

For better or worse it's fairly standard practice these days, particularly on the premium audio systems, but it's starting to become more universal.

First company that did it I think was BMW, but now we got Kia, Toyota, VW in their Audi products, Honda in their Acura products, General Motors in Cadillac products and the Corvette, Stellantis was exploring it in Dodge/Jeep products, Nissan does it in 370Z, Subaru does it the BRZ and some of the WRX models, etc. etc.

Believe it or not is more common in the performance/sport versions of vehicles than it is on the more "mass market" vehicles, because the people buying those performance models are the folks that care about the engine note the most.

Okay, sure and I understand, but didn’t think I was in that market lol… this is no Heritage/Raptor/Shelby etc.

Ah well, Forscan here I come!

Is this a joke? Do the Broncos all have a fake engine sound for some ungodly reason now?

Edit: Looks like it's only with the Lux package with the B&O system. Well done Ford, well done...
Yeah, you're almost 100% correct.

It comes standard in the grocery getter, mall crawler, crumb snatcher Mordoors.

It's not available in the 2 Door. Thanks Ford!!!

So it’s not on the two door?

Nope! 😁

Update:

So this actually confirms what others have said, regardless of door count. All pre-2024 Broncos with B&O audio and all 2024+ have ā€œsound system tuningā€ to enhance the ā€œreal engine soundsā€. But at least the engine noise isn’t ā€œfakeā€. It would be nice to hear more details from the audio engineers who worked on this for Ford.
