My Bronco took a little hail damage at work the other day. The hood got pretty beat up, only a few deep marks but lots of smaller ones. I tried to get some pictures to prove it actually happened, but couldn't get any to really show the damage. The surprising part is absolutely no damage to the MIC top at all. I guess laminated cardboard is stronger than aluminum. I'm sure the top has a little more give than the hood, but I was still pretty surprised.

It just happened on Wednesday so I haven't had much opportunity to do anything. I plan on taking it to a paintless repair shop for an estimate before I file a claim with insurance. I just want to see what a cash price might be before going all in with insurance.

Paintless dent removal can be difficult with aluminum. Aluminum work hardens. Make sure you tell the technician he'll be working with aluminum body panels when you call him

Like those Saturns with plastic body panels. Very resilient to dents, but they'd start to crack as they age. Imagine that...

I recently went through this. MIne wound up being nearly $4000 for PDR. They charged 50% extra for aluminum body panels.

Yes, my MIC top survived unscathed. Some of the dents were pretty deep, but all were fixable by PDR and are unnoticeable now.

Aftermarket parts generally have an adverse affect on resale value. Paintless dent removal (PDR) is amazing. I've had several door dings taken out and can't find where they were. I watched a guy do it, went in through the taillight and messaged the dent out. He didn't use any heat or cool or anything like that, just massaged it out with tools. These guys are talented. I use a guy who owns his business and is very reasonable, charges me $80 to take out a door ding. If you go to a body shop, most likely they contract out the PDR. If the damage is too severe for PDR, insurance will most likely replace the hood. I would go with a OEM hood, unless you want something aftermarket.

Paintless repair guys will get them all. My bronco had hail damage in the Michigan lot outside the assembly plant before I received it. Obviously it delayed my receipt of the vehicle but Ford sent it out for repair then applied a $2k discount.

I have also seen a car that looked like swiss cheese after a quarter sized hail storm tore through. A couple thousand dents and the repair guys popped out every one.

If it cost $4k to do it…I’d be hard pressed to not buy a carbon fiber hood, but who knows. Should get some info this week. Thanks to everyone for weighing in.

I’m having my MIC Top replaced tomorrow under warranty and I only have 145 miles on it. It’s suppose to be a revised one what ever that means. I agree with that website it should be warrantied for 5 years.
