When going into flat tow with 2.7 and auto transmission when do you put Air Conditioner into re-circulate so that it stays there during flat towing?

We put it into Re-Circulate right after putting Bronco into Accessory Mode. Is this the right step?

Note: Put your climate control system in recirculated air mode to prevent exhaust fumes from entering your vehicle.

I need to experiment more as our AC does not always seem to stay in Recirculate when we turn AC off then later back on. I am thinking that if you put AC in Recirculate then shut off the engine and proceed to Accessory mode for Flat Tow configuration, the recir mode would be off and the system would allow dust/exhaust to flow inside.

Just got back from a trip to Galveston and paid a little more attention to the recir mode. It appears the AC will stay recir mode when you turn off the ignition. So the last thing I do is make sure the AC is in recir mode before pressing the start button the last time.
I did notice if you do a remote start it turns off the recir mode.

I just the ac system off.
I used to just shut it off, but now I leave it on
All the lights on the climate are a good heads up that acc is on.
And, do you guys notice exhaust entry if you don't use recirc. I really don't notice with my front engine gas. Maybe with a diesel pusher?

You know I have not noticed any smell at all and I have towed in dry and wet weather.
