Any chance there’s a fellow 6G’er in the Central Texas area with the Forscan setup that would be willing to help me out with changing some stuff on a new 2026 Big Bend? I‘m in the area north of Austin and would be happy to come to you. I can buy you a 12 pack of “sodas” or lunch or something as a token of appreciation. I’m not very good with the computer stuff and after looking into it I’m a little worried i’ll screw something up.

I used panda motorworks to do my forscan updates for the same reason. Best $80 I spent for the piece of mind that someone who’s done it before will be making the updates while I watch and learn. Or get one of the flash cal programmers from super chips.

Yes, if you have a Win laptop the required hardware is cheap and the SW is free. That said the (only/free) FORScan software and jargon in it are quite murky IMHO.

Here is a subtlety to keep in mind. After you update any changes to your rig, those will be sent back to the Ford "mother ship" (wirelessly and automatically through your built in modem) and then stored as your "current configuration" or whatever that is properly called in FS. Thus when that is downloaded again, it should not be confused with the original, factory settings. Hope that helps.

Also, some cables can be problematic or too slow. Thus (non Bluetooth) one is often recommended and I use it myself.

VGATE vLinker FS USB FORScan OBD2 Adapter for HS/MS-CAN Auto Switch (Amazon).

Hopefully, not scaring you away @Reds N' Specks . It's fairly fast and easy.
