Found On Road Dead. Update 2
We were out enjoying the beautiful weather with the doors off and top back. Made a stop at the grocery store and took off and pulled into traffic and the engine was staggering with very little power and almost felt like it was running on a few cylinders or not getting gas. I pulled on to a side road and thought I would try shutting it off and start it back up. Well it never would start again. It would crank and almost start but never would. An engine light came on after trying to start about 6 times with a warning about over cranking. I did Ford roadside assistance through the app and they were there in about 30 minutes and took it to the dealership I purchased it from. We got there about 30 minutes before they closed. A salesman came out while it was being unloaded off the truck and we explained what happened and said we needed to figure out a way to get home. By the time we got inside he was already working on paperwork for a loaner. They gave me a '24 Outer Banks. Mine is a '22 2.7 liter and my guess is it may be the fuel pump like I have seen on a few other threads. I guess I won't know anything until Monday as this happened late Saturday afternoon. I took the doors and windows back to the dealership and put them on and locked it up as I definitely didn't trust it being wide open in their lot all weekend. I'll update once they give me one. Just sucks to have a vehicle with 8,500 miles to be towed. This is the first time I have ever been towed.
Update 1: Dealer called and said it would probably be tomorrow before anyone could look at it. Asked what it did or if any codes and told them nope it just died. Verified that I had received a loaner.
Also received a voicemail today from a Ford Representative ( Proactive Customer Dealer Team) Missed their call and kept trying to call back but kept getting a message they were with another customer. They gave me a case number and said they would be working with me and the dealership to make sure I was happy with the way the repair process was going and to thank me for being a member of the Ford family.
Update 2: Dealer contacted me today after 4 days to say they finally looked at it some and confirmed "a fuel delivery issue with zero fuel pressure". About 20,000 dealers were hit with a computer outage the last two days due to a cyber attack on their cloud software used for tracking tickets, etc. Then today the Ford website/software for the dealers was down also. This meant no diagnostic software available and no parts ordering.
Update 3: So, it turned out NOT be the actual fuel pump, but the fuel pump driver module instead. I assume this is a small computer/module that controls the fuel pump based on the name.
Observations: After driving the loaner I had a few observations. Mine is a 2022 Badlands, soft top, 2.7L with the Luxe Package and MGV. The loaner is a 2024 Outer Banks, hard top 2.3L luxe and Leather. The hardtop is quite a bit quieter on the highway than my soft top. I can see some honeycomb on the top as seen in the pic below. I could definitely notice the power difference so very glad I got the 2.7L. I think the leather seats are a little more plush than the MGV. I noticed with the auto-dimming headlights they fade up and down to low and high beam vs a "switch" like on most cars. I also noticed on the lane assist the 24 model actually corrects the steering wheel some to get you centered again. On my 22 model the steering wheel just shakes if it senses you are getting close to the line.
