So i have had 35x12.5x18 hercules tires on my stock 7.5 invh obx rims since i got the truck. Had the vehicle up to high speeds no vibration. Road noise yes but no vibration.

I had the tires put on the brand new in box rims i got and had them mounted and balanced with new tpms sensors. These rims are 9 inch wide and like a +12mm offset.

Well when i take the vehicle past 70 mph i get a very noticeable vibration that feels unsafe. I have no vibration before that. I was planning on taking the vehicle on a road trip where the speed limit will go up to 70.

When i brought the vehicle back he told me i needed a hub centric ring for these rims but he rebalanced them for me. So i did my research before i bought these rims and theid for them is 93.1 which is the od for the brinco hubs. I double checked and made sure.

my question is, what could i be looking at here? Could it be they just couldnt get them balanced? Im planning on taking the truck to another shop to get them blanaced and an alignment (i will be doing upgraded sway bar and toe rod ends so i want to align it anyway) so any insight or constructive advice is welcome.

Possible wheel defect. I had a 07 Tacoma. Stock wheels with Yokohama A/T no vibration. Bought Fuel Recoils brand new, same tires.. the truck now has a vibration at around 65mph. Rebalanced 3 times, new lugs, etc. Nothing worked. Bought some new Level 8 wheels. Vibration gone.

I don't have hub-centric rims and my 38's don't vibrate... I do make sure to run proper conical lug nuts though.

First I've heard of on Hercules (first I've heard of anyone running that tire tbh), but hear about it on KO2's all the time. You can try a road force balance - some folks have luck with that. But it's not a sure-fire thing.

That doesn't rule out a defect in one of the wheels - just the fact that the wheels are lug-centric isn't necessarily the issue. I won't deny that hub-centric is better though.

As you have covered off all the obvious sources of the vibration, have your installer check the runout (side to side wobble) and dynamic diameter of wheels (can be done on the vehicle, but not as precisely). That could show a bad wheel. A rare problem could be a tire not centred on the wheel (look carefully at the moulded bead line on the tire along the bead of the wheel - it should be the same distance all around). I have also seen where an installer has damaged the tire installing it causing it to vibrate badly.

So you had a new set of rims that were not hub centric and had a vibration, and you bought a new set that is hub centric and you still have a vibration?

i bought the truck with the hercules 35’s on the stock obx rim with 1.5 inch spacers. I bought new rims with the offset i want and no spacers used. Went from no wobble to a wobble over 70.

Im hoping there is no rim defect but that was one of the things i thought it could be and was worried about. Ive been in contact with the company based in Cali and they have been helpful and ready to make it right if its a rim defect. They asked me to measure the id of the rim and make sure they are correft 93.1. Told me if they arent they will make that right as well.
I should also note the tires were looked brand new when i got the truck. Almost like someone installed them then sold it.
Only good thing is if i decide to get a new rims im only out 160 each for these. But i hate wasted money. I know, you get what you pay for but these wheels look surprisingly good and lf good quality. We shall see.

The tires have been solid. Pretty knobby but only moderate road noise. Ill def inquire about a road force baance thank you for the advice.

ill have the shop check those things out for sure when i go to get the alignment. Thankfully all the way up to 70 i get no vibration so i can drive it till i do the front end work. Got upgraded sway bar bushings and tie rod ends. Thanks for the advice.

Check out the IG of a guy that owns a wheel shop in Lincolnton NC. I think it's STW direct. I can look it up if that doesn't get you there. He states that on MOST aftermarket wheels they like to balance them by the lug holes, and not the center. He says that most all factory wheels are good enough to be balanced by the center hole but most aftermarket wheels need to be balanced by the lug holes. I tend to believe what he's saying.

That's an interesting point and would explain alot. Im going to look it up now. Then call the old shop and ask how they balanced them and ask the new shop how they do their balancing. If its just a balancing issue and not a bent rim i can live with figuring it out. Just dont want to throw good money after bad. or however the saying goes. lol. Thanks for the info!

keep us posted, you can see the issues that I just dealt with over a vibration and mine was just a balance issue.

So update, chasing this gremlin took longer than expected because of the winter weather we had here but i took advantage of open space at my shop at work and rotated the tires front to back and just like that, fixed! Took it up to a little over 80 and no vibration other than the hum of the aggressive tread on the tires. Is it weird that rotating the tires fixed it?
