Hey to anyone that has installed the Genesis Dual Battery kit, have a question for you.(any Bronco, not Raptor specific) I just installed this kit on my 2024 Raptor yesterday, including the G Screen. I got the “engine on sensor” option but haven’t installed that yet.
I should start with one important thing for anyone with a Raptor that is thinking about getting this. I was told it fits the Raptor from Genesis when I bought it. It does not fit unless you do some modifications first. On the 2024 Raptor beneath the battery tray, connected to fuse box is a thick wire bundle covered in plastic. Directly across from that is an angled piece of the inner frame(at the driver front, from the fender to the grill) The new battery tray fits really tight in there and the accessory battery is supposed to slide up against the inner fender between those 2 things but it hits them both, leaving about a 3 inch gap which doesn’t allow the cranking battery to go into the tray. Only way I could get it to fit was to essentially unbolt the entire fuse box, remove the plastic shield from the wiring bundle and trim a bunch of plastic off of it so the battery fit. Not without hesitation did i do this. I trimmed as needed and then reassembled it and wrapped the wiring bundle and what was left of the plastic with fireproof wrap and electical tape so nothing was exposed. It turned out pretty nice but took about 2 hours to do. I didn’t want to do any cutting around the wires so the disassembly was necessary so i didn’t F anything up. It took me about 5 hours to install the kit and another hour for the G screen.
Once I had everything connected and working, I started it up for the first time. It has 3 modes, “Off - Auto - On” - I had it set to On and fired up the Bronco. I immediately got a low battery error on the dash followed by the “service brakes now” error where the emergency brake light stays on. I cycled the Bronco a few times and after a bit it went away. I should note, it was reading 13 - 14 on the voltage gauge on the dash and both batteries were reading 12.6 - 13.7 in both batteries on the G Screen. I called Genesis and spoke with I think Mike. Asked if he had heard anything about the Bronco throwing errors and he said he had not. We talked about all the sensors in these things getting wonky when you disconnect the battery and reconnect and how they typically go away. He also told me I should be running in the Auto position on the Genesis unit always. After we spoke, I had to get ready to leave for a trip and decided to switch the unit to auto. This is where the problems really started.
I am not entirely sure what auto is doing in the background, but it would not stop throwing low voltage errors, followed by the check brake errors. I could also hear a loud audible clicking noise while driving down the road coming from the unit. I pulled over 3 times, cycled the Bronco and each time the errors went away and came back soon after hearing the clicking noise. My assumption is the battery is triggering some sort of sensor in the Bronco as it is changing modes which causes this. If so, I don’t see how it’s going to be possible to drive in auto all the time. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this? Once I went back to the On position on the genesis unit, zero issues and both batteries look good with no errors. I drove from Pflugerville to north Dallas with no issues at all.
Sorry for the long post but curious to hear others thoughts or experience. I really like the setup and want to know if it’s just me or is there a bigger issue with the genesis causing issues with the sensors. I can take some pictures of everything once I get back home tomorrow.
Cheers
