Hey to anyone that has installed the Genesis Dual Battery kit, have a question for you.(any Bronco, not Raptor specific) I just installed this kit on my 2024 Raptor yesterday, including the G Screen. I got the “engine on sensor” option but haven’t installed that yet.

I should start with one important thing for anyone with a Raptor that is thinking about getting this. I was told it fits the Raptor from Genesis when I bought it. It does not fit unless you do some modifications first. On the 2024 Raptor beneath the battery tray, connected to fuse box is a thick wire bundle covered in plastic. Directly across from that is an angled piece of the inner frame(at the driver front, from the fender to the grill) The new battery tray fits really tight in there and the accessory battery is supposed to slide up against the inner fender between those 2 things but it hits them both, leaving about a 3 inch gap which doesn’t allow the cranking battery to go into the tray. Only way I could get it to fit was to essentially unbolt the entire fuse box, remove the plastic shield from the wiring bundle and trim a bunch of plastic off of it so the battery fit. Not without hesitation did i do this. I trimmed as needed and then reassembled it and wrapped the wiring bundle and what was left of the plastic with fireproof wrap and electical tape so nothing was exposed. It turned out pretty nice but took about 2 hours to do. I didn’t want to do any cutting around the wires so the disassembly was necessary so i didn’t F anything up. It took me about 5 hours to install the kit and another hour for the G screen.

Once I had everything connected and working, I started it up for the first time. It has 3 modes, “Off - Auto - On” - I had it set to On and fired up the Bronco. I immediately got a low battery error on the dash followed by the “service brakes now” error where the emergency brake light stays on. I cycled the Bronco a few times and after a bit it went away. I should note, it was reading 13 - 14 on the voltage gauge on the dash and both batteries were reading 12.6 - 13.7 in both batteries on the G Screen. I called Genesis and spoke with I think Mike. Asked if he had heard anything about the Bronco throwing errors and he said he had not. We talked about all the sensors in these things getting wonky when you disconnect the battery and reconnect and how they typically go away. He also told me I should be running in the Auto position on the Genesis unit always. After we spoke, I had to get ready to leave for a trip and decided to switch the unit to auto. This is where the problems really started.

I am not entirely sure what auto is doing in the background, but it would not stop throwing low voltage errors, followed by the check brake errors. I could also hear a loud audible clicking noise while driving down the road coming from the unit. I pulled over 3 times, cycled the Bronco and each time the errors went away and came back soon after hearing the clicking noise. My assumption is the battery is triggering some sort of sensor in the Bronco as it is changing modes which causes this. If so, I don’t see how it’s going to be possible to drive in auto all the time. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this? Once I went back to the On position on the genesis unit, zero issues and both batteries look good with no errors. I drove from Pflugerville to north Dallas with no issues at all.

Sorry for the long post but curious to hear others thoughts or experience. I really like the setup and want to know if it’s just me or is there a bigger issue with the genesis causing issues with the sensors. I can take some pictures of everything once I get back home tomorrow.

Cheers

Wow.
Non Raptor but I've had none of those issues. Only thing I can think of is something happened when you disconnected/moved the fuse box. It sounds like a loose ground connection or something.
Good luck.

So to be clear, I only unbolted the fuse box to get it off the plastic shield covering that harness. I didn’t disconnect anything in the fuse box at all or remove any wires. I am only having the issue in “auto” mode as well. When I get back home I am going to connect that engine on sensor to see if it helps.

Did you install the engine on sensor? Also, when in auto mode, can you hear the Genesis clicking when it’s changing modes?

I could be totally wrong and mixing up different vehicles from my past here but doesn’t the bolt/bolts that hold the fuse box down serve as some sort of a ground for the box? Might wanna make sure that’s tight again etc. Grounds can do weird stuff

I installed mine with engine sensor. I have disabled auto stop(annoying a heck for me). I have had no issues. I have been slowly migrating my addons to it because I just got the genesis kit. I have not noticed it clicking unless I go in there and switch the switch manually. Everything seems to be working great. Sorry to hear about your raptor issues. Have you reached out to them yet? Good luck!

On a separate note, when Fords battery management systems shut the vehicle down does it do that by breaking the ground connection at the little sensor thing on the battery? I have been trying to figure out what FORD does electronically when the BMS does shut the vehicle down. I guess I could ask ChatGPT, but I thought I would start here after searching.

I head back home tomorrow from Dallas and going to install the sensor wire and do some testing with the auto switch. If it breaks around home not a huge deal. 300 miles from home I don’t want to mess with it. I will contact Genesis Monday and see what they say. I don’t think there has been any testing on the Raptor, I am almost certain they have not done an install on one themselves. If I were closer to them i would be more than willing to drop it off so they could perfect it and make a tray that fits. I will post back whatever I find so others who want to go this route can avoid the issues i am having.

On a different note, having the battery disconnected that long actually triggered a software update on Sync. It never had one since leaving the factory despite being on the phone with Ford for hours and them telling me it didn’t need an update although it’s clear as day it did when you enter the VIN on their public site. 😂

Yea i believe they do. Some people early on had gremlins due to loose fuse box bolts.

Update: I finally got everything sorted out. I called and spoke with Mike at Genesis a few times to help me troubleshoot the issue. Although the things he suggested didn’t necessarily fix the issue, having him explain in detail how the system worked helped me better understand what was going on. Last thing he had me do was switch the batteries around in the tray thinking the cranking battery may be having issues. I did that and still had the same thing happen.

I was at a loss at this point. I watched the video from Genesis explaining how the G screen works again. You can make changes to the system directly from the G screen, particularly the Boost On/Off function by pressing the screen down for 3 seconds. So I flipped through the different screens and noticed Boost was on. I held down the G screen button and turned it off, now the G screen showed Auto On. Cycled the ignition, let the Bronco sit for awhile and tried it again. Fired it up and the issue was gone! I spent the next couple of hours testing it by starting it, shutting it off, letting it sit, etc. and the issue has not returned. It’s been a couple days now and it is working perfectly.

I should also mention I hooked up the “engine on” sensor as well. After understanding how the system works, not sure that should be optional, it should be standard. For the Bronco at least. Anyways, happy it is working. My only complaint with the setup is it doesn’t really fit the Raptor. I let Mike know what I had to do to get it to fit so maybe they can redesign the battery tray so anyone who orders it doesn’t have to do what I did. Thanks to everyone who responded!

Curious if any updates have been done to the tray yet to fit a bronco raptor without what the original poster had to go through.

Hey to anyone that has installed the Genesis Dual Battery kit, have a question for you.(any Bronco, not Raptor specific) I just installed this kit on my 2024 Raptor yesterday, including the G Screen. I got the “engine on sensor” option but haven’t installed that yet.

I'm having the same problem. I brought it to the dealership. They did a reset on the Battery Management System (BMS) and they got an error on reset regardless of what mode the Genesis system was in when the BMS was reset. If I put the Genesis to ON mode, I don't get errors on engine start or while driving. If I put it into Auto mode, I get the errors every time, either on engine start, or when braking while driving. If anyone has solved this, please let me know. I called Genesis support but they blamed the Bronco and were unsympathetic. A bit frustrating.

Hey sorry you are dealing with this. Couple of suggestions. Take the top cover off and make sure everything is tight. There were 3 nuts under mine that weren’t even hand tight so I had to tighten them all down. I have seen others complaining about this as well and Genesis acknowledged it. I will try and find the posts.

Also, make sure the positive terminal block is making a good connection to the cranking battery. With all the issues I had with mine, my assumption is they did zero testing with the Raptor because they claimed it fit but that was not the case. Not even close. I just barely got the positive terminal block up and over the cranking battery terminal. I had to get up inside the engine bay and cut all of the zip ties holding the wire bundle on just to get an extra quarter inch to make it work. All the other connections to the negative and positive on both batteries were ok, just triple check they are tight.

1 thing I did as well was added a Noco trickle charger to my cranking battery and I always plug it in when it’s parked in the garage. I noticed when I don’t plug it in and don’t drive it for a few days, it starts fine but my battery voltage jumps up to almost 15 volts and hovers around there until I have driven it for a couple hours. I cycle the Bronco and it drops back down to around 12.9 to 13 volts. If I have it on the trickle charger all night it starts up and stays in this same range.

Knock on wood it’s been awhile since I have had any issues. I couldn’t honestly tell you what fixed it, just seems to work itself out after awhile. When it does happen, the fix is turning the Bronco off, opening the driver side door, wait 5 seconds, shut it and start it back up and problem goes away. I know it sounds ridiculous but sometimes you do what you gotta do. 😂

I can’t imagine dealing with this if I wasn’t comfortable with troubleshooting and fixing it on my own. If that weren’t the case I would have sent this thing back without hesitation. I like the concept and the guys at Genesis have tried to help, but i don’t think they have spent the time working out the bugs for the Bronco. I am not surprised at all with your statement about your interactions with them.

Just to clarify, this step is shown in the installation video. The Group 25 batteries are slightly taller than the stock battery, so the video shows how to locate the zip ties securing the factory positive wire, cut them, pull an inch or so of slack up, and then resecure them with new zip ties provided in the hardware bag. This allows the clamp to reach the top of the battery.

Please understand that we work very hard to make all of our products as easy to install as we possibly can. It is impossible for aftermarket parts companies to test every single vehicle engine/trim level/option package combination available. We do the best we can to ensure that we are providing the most accurate information possible, and any fitment concerns are noted on our website. That being said, if you run into ANY difficulty with installing our products, I would always encourage you to call our office to talk through it - 901-214-5337. Any time a customer calls us with a situation or problem that we have not seen before, we are eager to jump onto a video conference call to see the issue for ourselves. When customers are willing to provide helpful feedback, that helps me tweak our product design to make the product better for the next guy. I never want to let a good problem go to waste without trying to fix it. But I can't fix it if I don't know about it. For example, I have tweaked our Jeep JK kit probably 6 times, and the JL kit at least 5 times, to make it fit better, easier to install, stronger & more durable, and to allow it to clear new engine options. When Jeep launched the eTorque mild hybrid system in 2019, our dealer Rebel Offroad in California installed the first dual battery kit in one of those, and they called us to let us know the power steering bottle, which attaches directly to our tray, was rubbing the drive belt, so they put a few washers under the mounting point to raise it up a little bit and it cleared. That was very helpful to us, and I was able to quickly modify that mount point so the bottle would fit properly on models with or without the eTorque system.

All that to say, we want you to have a fantastic experience with our products. If your experience is anything less than that, PLEASE reach out to us, we are here to help.

Hey Shane, I appreciate your response. I reached out and spoke with Mike a few times and it felt like he wanted to help, but was as stuck as I was and kept referring to the videos I had already watched. I am only making assumptions here in regards to the Raptor. Your videos had a picture of the Raptor at the beginning but the actual walkthroughs were on a regular Bronco.

From your site.

The dimensions inside are not the same and it was obvious when I was installing it. I have owned a non Raptor and the positive terminal wire bundle is different. The new battery tray you provided is not one you can just drop in like the other Broncos. It doesn’t fit. I had to make it fit. I gave this feedback to Mike, what was done with it is on you guys. I asked if this had been tested on the Raptor and never got a clear answer which made me assume it was a no.

Am I happy with with your product? Overall yes, it does what I want it to. You were up front about the size of the batteries and I understood that going into it. I had to pull the entire fuse box up and trim a bunch of plastic for the battery tray to fit. Not to mention the use of a rubber mallet, a stripped bolt and taking the lords name in vain multiple times before it barely fit in there.

The point to my response. I haven’t had any bad interactions with your company, just not overly helpful. In the end I figured it out and I know how to deal with most of the issues now that pop up. I don’t want to pull it out and use anything else, like I said I am happy with it. To be honest I don’t know if I could get it out now. It’s not a cheap setup and I think most people who are willing to spend that expect an exceptional product and experience. If it would have been someone like my wife installing it who has zero electrical know how or any common sense when it comes to this stuff, she would have just set the whole truck on fire and started over. Because to be fair, people like my wonderful wife order this type of stuff as well.

The fact you are on here talking to us is great, I really do appreciate it. I mean no offense to you or Genesis, just speaking about my experience is all.
