So I have a 2021 outer banks Sasquatch, short version I had squirrels chew up wiring harness that goes to the sensor on top passenger side of transfer case dealer replaced it then told me sensor was bad so instead of paying them a fortune to do anymore work since it’s out of warranty I brought it home and done it myself well my wife drove it home but I noticed after it got home it was stuck in 4H so I replaced sensor and that didn’t fix it cause the goat mode went from having no lights working cause of the wiring harness to all lights was lit after changing sensor it was saying it was in 4H but couldn’t switch to 2H or any other 4x4 mode talked with dealer they said the transfer case motor gear selector was bad so I bought one of those and replaced and now it’s back to no lights and can’t switch any 4x4 gears and what I was reading you have to calibrate the new motor with the tccm?

Dealing with rodent wiring damage is an absolute nightmare, so you have my sympathy on this one.

But you hit the nail on the head at the very end of your post: Yes, you absolutely must calibrate the new transfer case shift motor with the TCCM.

When you bolt a new shift motor onto the transfer case, the TCCM doesn't know where the physical end-stops of the new internal gears are. As a safety measure to keep the system from tearing itself apart, the TCCM will go into a hard fault, lock out the system, and kill the lights to the GOAT dial.

You don't need to go back to the dealer and pay their crazy diagnostic fees to fix this. Here is your game plan:

Get FORScan: If you don't already have it, download the FORScan software to a Windows laptop and grab a cheap OBDLink EX cable off Amazon. It's the ultimate DIY tool for modern Fords.

Run the Calibration: In FORScan, go to the Service Procedures tab and run the TCCM Module Calibration / Shift Motor Learn procedure. This forces the module to sweep the new motor and learn the gear positions.

Clear the Hard Codes: Once calibrated, clear all the DTCs in the modules. The GOAT dial lights won't come back on until the TCCM sees the faults are cleared.

Check Your Fuses: Just as a backup, since squirrels chewed the original harness, double-check the fuses for the TCCM and the console dial. A shorted wire often pops a fuse that gets overlooked during the parts cannon process.

Run that calibration through FORScan, clear the codes, and your GOAT dial should wake right back up.

Another important point: If the vehicle’s battery voltage drops suddenly while performing any module calibration or reset, it may cause the module to become bricked.

Prevention: Do not turn on the air conditioning, headlights, or audio system during the procedure. If the battery is old, it is best to connect a Battery Tender before proceeding.
