I purchased CV Fabrication's new 2.3 downpipes and it comes with a 700 CPSI catalytic converter that is not CARB compliant.

1. How much more performance would a Gesi G-Sport provide vs the 700 CPSI?

2. What is the highest performing CARB compliant catalytic converter that I can use?

I have three questions.

3. Is there any type of cat that I could temporarily install after the muffler just to pass annual inspection?
Sorry I'm no expert. But I don't believe a catalytic converter will be functional that far down stream. Not sure if that would pass an inspection.

Could I use a high flow Gesi at the turbo and take the existing catalytic converter and temporarily add it near the rear of the Magnaflow exhaust system for inspection?

No, because it won't likely get hot enough to light off (at least not quickly enough).

Additionally, with regard to CARB, even moving the catalytic converter location is a no-no.

Not sure if NY is the same as California with regard to hot strict they enforce the inspection part. Back in California, they just bribe the smog station, and knowing NY, it's probably the same deal.

Assuming I did go the route of helping to support the common man, is the performance gain worth pulling off a 700cpsi unit for a Gesi high flow?

Now that I'm curious about

I do know that in general, next to a tune, you get the best bang for the buck with Downpipes. So you're saying swap the 700 cell for a smaller one? I am curious

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but nothing but a CARB compliant cat in the factory location is legal. There is no getting around this. There is no such thing as a performance CARB legal catalytic converter.

As for performance you will absolutely not be able to tell the difference between the GESi and the cats from CV fab. The difference is in the metal substrate that GESi uses. There is a whole list of reasons a metal substrate is better but they are mostly irrelevant to this discussion.

Unless you are pushing 500+ hp with upgraded turbos you do not need high flow cats. You can tell yourself what ever you want to make yourself feel better about buying them but this is a fact.

What part of NY are ya from, Choom?

I had a '19 Ram Rebel I did a full AFE exhaust on (Catted Y-Pipe, Shorties, Catback), modded work truck, passed emissions all the time. Idk what the cell size was, but they were literally the size of Coke Can's and they never looked twice during testing. I get Jersey is different from NY, but I feel you should be fine unless they're way more tyrannical up there

Thanks. Overthinking resolved.
