I get that, but we, as a society, have survived without DRLs on vehicles for over 80 years. If someone doesn’t want them, that’s their choice. I am not going to lambast someone’s choice to not have lights on, during the day.
Survive is the wrong word. We've gotten by without it for sure. Much in the same we've gotten by without rear facing cameras, but they've been mandated in vehicles since 2018 because they reduce accidents and the chance that you'll run someone over. These things all help reduce accidents which is why they're worth using

That's frankly, a silly point. We have survived without airbags for over 100 years too. But sometimes things come along that are better. I can name 20 safety features cars didn't have 25 years ago that are all game changers. Safety evolution isn't a choice. You keep up, or fall behind.

Wow, I never imagined this thread would turn into such a lengthy discussion. I didn't think running (or not running) DRL's was such a polarizing subject.

I also think people need to consider geographic location. Most people that are saying I'm idiotic for wanting to turn off my DAYTIME lights live in the North. I grew up in NY so I get it. You basically don't see the sun from October through March. Florida is way different. We have about 5 cloudy days a year. I'm not worried about making myself less visible. If you lived here you would get it. Most Florida drivers don't need a reason to hit you, you could have all the lights in the world and it won't make a damn bit of difference because they are staring at their cell phones anyway.

Safety Evolution....

63 million Takata air bag inflators were recalled because of potential injury / death from shrapnel.
As of last year, 11 million of which have not been replaced.

That's 11 million potential deaths from airbags.

I don't have the signature lighting and the half circle lighting on the standard headlight looks strange to me. Plus it's an added load on the battery that just isn't needed in sunny Florida in my opinion.
Just make sure you turn them on when you turn on your windshield wipers.... That is a law in Florida.

Well that's the thing, the vehicle is smart enough to turn on the lights automatically when the wipers are turned on. It was the same way in my Ranger. That's a separate function from DRL.

Thank you! I was trying to do it thru the steering wheel settings. Didn't realize the radio screen had more options under those settings. I would have thought it would be the same.
Read your owner's manual!

How do I turn off my brake lights? I too live in Florida and it’s sunny all the time. I just think they’re a waste of electricity. Sorry, I had to go there.

I prefer to not have a car nanny. I learned a long time ago to turn my headlights on when I start my car, and turn them off before I get out of my car, no need for DRLs.

Why stop there, might as well disable the turn signals and the reverse lights, because clearly this has devolved into a "lights are completely useless" thread from where it started.

Why don't you quote how many lives they have saved in that same period. That is a more interesting statistic. Tires have been recalled too. Should we not use tires? What is your point?

Wait the guy who does "lane splitting" on his bike is worried about safety?

I'd be surprised if there wasn't a way to disable it in the settings without the use of forscan. I've always been able to turn off DRL in all other vehicles I've owned.
I found my settings in the radio, settings, turned off drl, and they still stayed on. Now I am confused.
