I have the iag hood struts and steps. Hood struts after a year are essentially still brand new.
I noticed rust yesterday on my step, after 1 winter mostly garaged.
Funny you mention their hood struts - I've had mine installed since June last year and while they still work great, both the hood mounting hardware and strut bodies themselves are showing considerable corrosion.

IAG was great in replacing them quickly but noted this must be tied to Michigan's salty roads. Sure, I guess, it might be - but these started corroding before salt was ever applied this winter...

Mine are painted black but that shouldn't be an issue - there are other black painted metal parts underhood - both OE and aftermarket - that are most definitely NOT rusting.

These are not made in China.

Their Chinese manufactured stuff is the "I line" stuff listed on their website. They have been transparent about it.

I might por15 the steps.
None of my American steel bumpers or steps have rusted like that. And they salt the roads like crazy here. All I'm going to say is I would love to know where the metal is sourced from.

Wisconsin must use superior salt

Pics of first set.
Removed and replaced after about 4 months

The replacement set is starting to do the same.
New set is looking better but starting to rust through the finish.

Yes, the customer service is good 👍
But, the product is not.

I agree with the previous post about the quality of the steel.

New set will end up in the recycle bin when I get the R.S.E. steps installed.

Do you wear crampons while getting in/out of the Bronco?

I want to get some hood struts for mine but will not spend 100+ bucks and have it look like this in a few months. That’s disappointing. I’d rather get them on ebay for a third of the price and hope for the best. Thanks for sharing your experience.

That's true
However, we have no other parts on any of our vehicles that are doing this.
Wait a few years. These obviously are just not as well protected under the powder coat. Brine is like salt on steroids.

I just emailed them as well, they are working on in house powdercoating these now due to all the issues. I was part of the original batch, they were installed last march and made it to winter without issues but the pa salt I guess did them in. Hopefully they got everything sorted out and the new ones will last.

Sheesh y’all driving on salted roads?

From the west coast here, 8 months, no issues with mine.
Ah... yeah. Wonder why they call it the rust belt? Products can be designed to endure, the OEMs do it all the time. Small time outfits like IAG can't afford to do it right so they just make a best guess and go for it. Most companies either underestimate the required durability of parts and design for an average climate or they are aware of the climate challenges for some of their customers and choose to take the cheap route. Proper durability testing vs. replacing some customer parts on a case-by-case basis. Which is cheaper? Their reputation isn't necessarily their primary concern.
