I’ve read many times about letting your turbo “idle down”. I assumed this meant not to turn off your engine immediately. Let it idle for a few seconds before turning it off.

Nope. I experienced it today, and feel a bit stupid.

If you wait about 45 to 60 seconds after stopping and putting it in park, the engine noise changes. Your RPMs don’t, but you can hear the engine “idle down”.

Very important for the life of your turbos…….or so I heard.

I follow the decades-old Mack Trucks instructions.
"Idle engine 3 minutes before shut down."
This is all about allowing your turbo to cool down. I.e., at idle the turbo is no longer working but oil continues to pump oil thru it. That oil carries away heat allowing the turbo to cool down. Oil can boil within the turbo under harsh conditions if your were to abruptly shut down, which damages the ball bearings.
Anyway, with all gasoline and diesel turbocharged engines, I follow the Mack rule.

There are safety margins baked into the algorithms that will defeat the process. While annoying, it is not detrimental to engine components designed for it.

Eh, I don’t really have faith in this, because it cut off once at a stoplight after I had been ON IT and I ended up cursing at it, and myself for forgetting to push the goddamn button.

Did you even read my post before commenting on it? I basically said in extreme circumstances would be the only reason to leave it idle for a little bit before shutting down. I don’t think you understand how Turbo chargers work. You know they spin 100,000+ RPM and get glowing red about to melt?. one guy with a Subaru said that the water boils away and freshwater comes in. I’m gonna take that as maybe in a Subaru maybe in a bronco I don’t know. What is your problem? Do you also have a problem with me believing that we should only run full synthetic oil in turbo cars also? You’ll probably trade your car before it gets over 100,000 miles. I’m gonna keep mine forever. I will maintain it how I like and that will obviously be maintained better than yours..
