So I was looking at pictures and am trying to envision keeping the 2 top pieces on but removing the rear clam shell, going with the safari type look

Would the backseat be covered from rain and the elements? Could you get a cargo cover of some sorts and be able to permanently drive without the rear shell unless of extreme weather?

I think this looks better AND would be easier to change the roof quickly for bad weather/good weather

I don’t think we will really know until we see how the hard top panels attach to the roof structure. I would guess probably not though.

It looks like the middle section (over the rear seats) will just barely come to the edge to cover the rear passengers. This may work for light rain if you are in a pinch, but judging by this photo, it looks like the tapered edge could be a problem.

I have used just the front "freedom panels" on my Jeep hard top to cover the front seats in the past and it will protect you from some rain, but it is far from perfect. You will still get wet if the wind shifts to come in from behind you.

Your best option is probably to wait for the aftermarket to make a soft top option that suits your needs. Jeep has this thing called the BackBone that covers the cargo area and the same company also offers a rear windshield to be used with a safari style soft top. The tops can be found here from Bestop, but I believe it is compatible with other manufacturers. Bestop is just the OEM manufacturer for the Jeep soft tops so it is the most popular for aftermarket as well.

If there is enough demand, someone else will come out with something similar for the Bronco.

I could see Bestop making a slanted soft top for the rear like they do for the Wrangler. And maybe a cargo strap

It might get a little cold and wet in the winter months completely open, depending on where you live. As someone mentioned, there will probably be a bunch of after market option after the first release. Who knows Ford might already have a slanted back option in hard and soft top. Something like pic would be pretty cool, IMO.

I have a slanted back soft top on my Jeep during the summer and I get loads of compliments on it. It really makes a difference on the four door because of the angle of the sport bar over the cargo area. Unfortunately, two doors wont get that dramatic fastback look for the same reason. The sport bar prevents the steep angle.

I am willing to bet Bestop makes a nearly identical soft top for the Bronco.

I saw a Wrangler 4 Door with the same Slanting Roof with the Spare Tire Custom Mounted on it. It was really a cool mod.

Not exactly like picture, but it was a bit higher.

Cool look, but doubt I'd ever use it since it cuts your cargo space so much.
