Mirror side lights

Everyone knows the mirror side lights go off at 6 mph. Looking at a schematic I seems the easiest way
to make them stay on is to wire the buttons to the headlight hot under the dash. I don’t think it is necessary
to add a aux switch.

How do you mean? Which schematic are you looking at?

The headlight/foglight/spotlight “switch” is actually just a controller that doesn’t directly send power to any exterior lights. It only connects to the BCM (via LIN bus) and Passenger Door Module.

If a button is pressed, those modules check the criteria for that request, and if criteria are met, like speed limit for the spots, the modules send power to the lights.

Yup. Those first two files show that the headlamps are not connected to the headlamp switch directly, and the third file show the headlamp switch only has 5 pin connections - to Ground, Power, the BCM and the Passenger Door Module.

The driver and passenger mirror schematics below show the mirror spot lamps are powered by their respective door modules. So I don't follow the OP's idea "to wire the buttons to the headlight hot under the dash".

Either the software has to be modified, or new power wires need to be added directly to the lamps that bypass the door modules. I plan to do the latter using an aux switch and a couple diodes.

That might work, the diodes are a very good idea to protect the door modules. They might not like back fed power. 1N4001 diode will handle one amp. That's probably enough.

I bought diodes 15SQ045 Schottky diodes several months ago based on post #40 I mentioned above, but life issues has delayed me making the modification. Now with the engine bay harness recall pending, I’ll probably wait until that is addressed.

15A for forward current is a lot more than needed, but the diodes may be useful for other projects.
